Making it in the music business in Kingston, Jamaica, is hard, and nobody knows it better than regularly unemployed drummer Horsemouth (Leroy Wallace). Although talented, he earns precious little for his music and is obliged to try hustling vinyl records on the side. It's a lousy gig, but Horsemouth takes his lumps amiably, until some brash members of the local Mafia steal his motorbike. Determined to get it back, he and his friends concoct a daring scheme.

Bruce McCabe Boston Globe Rockers is an extraordinarily ambitious film for one that seems so casually put together. Apr 27, 2018 Full Review Time Out An excellent soundtrack, and an endearingly witty script which digresses through explanations of the Rasta faith and countless idiosyncratic solidarity rituals, make for a delightful piece of whimsy. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times Rockers is heavily didactic about the tenets of Rastafarianism, but it's also lighthearted, offering much the same dichotomy reggae music does. delysid d cool movie but no clue what these mumblers are saying most of the time! some funny hairstyles you don't see often these days Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/22 Full Review Audience Member A great film that feels like it is somehow very evocative of a time and place, not that I can say what late 70s Jamaica was like with any certainty. The film stars legendary drummer Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace as a man trying to make his way in a difficult world. The film expounds a fair amount on various strains of Rastafarian philosophy, and the struggle against the representatives of the multi-faceted Rasta idea of "Babylon". There are some wonderful shots, I'm thinking particularly of the inside of a record pressing plant, Horsemouth travelling round Jamaica on a motorbike, and a wonderful scene featuring a Burning Spear accapella. The music is, of course, phenomenal and many of Jamaica's top musicians of the time feature in supporting roles. Subtitles recommended for most - I thought I was reasonably good with patois as middle class English white guys go but really struggled to follow when I first tried without them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member My all time favorite Movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member police and thieves can't stop the music...
