Critics Consensus

She's Funny That Way is an affectionate, talent-filled throwback to screwball comedies of old -- which makes it even more frustrating that the laughs are disappointingly few and far between.

A light and likeable screwball comedy with a stellar ensemble cast. Go to Full Review

She's Funny That Way is trying very hard to be a sexy screwball comedy. It tries so hard, with such a contrived and silly story, that it only succeeds in wearing the audience down. [Full review in Japanese] Go to Full Review

She's Funny That Way makes for good fun, though it's not necessarily funny in that, or many other, ways. If nothing else, it's heartening to see Bogdanovich back in the saddle. Go to Full Review

It’s the kind of movie where the private detective wears silly disguises because scenes like these are funnier if someone’s dressed like a rabbi. Go to Full Review

Occasionally muddled though it may be, She’s Funny That Way has an appealing cast and blithe spirit, even if the experience is somehow frustrating because we can see that Bogdanovich is oh-so-close to a very good film. Go to Full Review

With an eclectic career spanning almost five decades, Bogdanovich is one of cinema's most enduring stalwarts. Go to Full Review

MariofanAlex445 Nov 1 For what it was trying to be, it was fine. For being a comedy it was quite disappointing how unfunny it was. That scene where Albert (Owen Wilson’s character) was on the phone with the escort service AND his family at the same time is a new kind of evil. I did like the premise a lot, just wish the film was made by someone else. Still, this is the kind of movie you put on as background noise while you do work or whatever. 2/5 stars. See more thiago s @Thiagostone Oct 14 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Drew H Jun 26 A farcical film with subtle story telling where the characters relationships intertwine in such sporadic and convenient ways, it’s a movie to love and hate and coincidently become a favorite. It reaps of Noises Off for the next generation. A stellar cast including Kathryn Hahn and Jennifer Aniston. This ultimately Drew me to this film; the early work of Kathryn sharing the screen with Jennifer. The story is odd and eccentric which keeps one chugging along. Perhaps not the funniest movie you’ll see anytime soon, but certainly gives some fun performances by the cast. Taking place in New York on the heals of a new play coming out; the timeline is short and gets to the point in swift occurrences. Like my first sentence…you can love and hate it…therefor there is not much more to say beyond that other then give it a try See more Matheus M May 15 A light, witty, and cleverly chaotic film. She’s Funny That Way delivers a screwball-style romantic comedy with sharp dialogue, great performances — especially from Imogen Poots and Owen Wilson — and a fun narrative that plays with coincidences and unlikely encounters. Perfect for a couple’s movie night, the film charms with its lightness and nostalgic homage to the genre. A pleasant surprise. See more Chris H Apr 26 One of the worst movies I've ever seen the live action snow white should win an Oscar compared to this hot trash.
