Anderson v I really love this movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Alexis M This movie was way better than the live-action once Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently. The first thing I noticed was that unlike the earlier Smurf movies which mixed live action with animation, this one is all animated. As you'd expect It's bright and colourful, with lots of fast paced action, and has an upbeat pop sound track which is fun. The quality of animation is very good with lots of detail in rich environments. The trouble is the lack of character depth and a weak story line. Smurfette is the the main attraction, but even she is difficult to relate to. Put simply, for the most part it's style over substance and feels under developed and hollow as a story. Younger children may forgive these shortcomings more readily than adults, and I suspect they are the target audience. For me as an adult, the best parts of the movie were the musical scenes. There's a short scene set to 'We Could Be Heros' in chapter 5, and a longer celebration sequence in chapter 11 set to 'Blue Da Ba Dee' which I liked. There's also a sad scene in chapter 15 which is particularly moving. There's more about the music in the dvd extras.
