Critics Consensus

The faithful may find their spirits raised, but on purely cinematic terms, Son of God is too dull and heavy-handed to spark much fervor.

Jordan Hoffman Times of Israel The film's low quality, however, is undeniable. The chintzy music over the closing credits, just after Jesus ascends to heaven in a cloud of bundled iMac special effects, is just laughable. Feb 1, 2018 Full Review Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald The hunk factor aside, it's bizarre that a film presumably conceived as an act of devotion should feel so lacklustre and impersonal. Rated: 1/5 May 21, 2014 Full Review Louis Black Austin Chronicle There is little cinematic about the film. Instead, it is a series of figurative illustrations. Rated: 1/5 Mar 6, 2014 Full Review Iván Kazi EscribiendoCine ... an infusion of banality. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/10 Oct 18, 2022 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It simply doesn't work. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Sep 23, 2020 Full Review Frank Ochieng SF Crowsnest Overall, Spencer's deeply reflective yet recycled conscious-driven epic seems robotic and compacted. As a faith-healing and feel-good big screen offering, Son Of God deserved much better polish and prose at the center of its pronounced pulpit Rated: 2/4 Nov 11, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Rosemary T. C The cast is excellent, especially the actor playing Jesus, and production design amazing. This is the story, I highly recommend this film!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Owen G The potential of the movie with the over the top beginning from Genesis to just before the birth of Yeshua gave the impression that this was going to be a very big film. But once the 3 kings paid homage to a newborn the potential went downhill. It tended to jumble a lot of the scenarios together, which I'm use to, but in a way that seemed to distract from the actual story. All in all, I felt it could have been SO much more but it was a watchable movie. There have been some the the manipulation of the story and the acting have forced me to watch something else even if it were an old Batman serial.
