Stefan Birgir Stefans sbs.is The film has some great effects (mixed with some bad green screening), it looks great, is highly enjoyable and should be classified with other alternative vampire flicks, like The Lost Boys (1987) and Near Dark (1987). Rated: 4/5 Sep 8, 2023 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Rather than go for a tired vampire story, Nicolaou gives audiences an old school-feeling flick that carves out its own strange vampire niche in the horror genre. Thom G Subspecies is a delightful 90s gothic, campy, and romantic horror film Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review R P The Subspecies series is one of my favorite Full Moon Entertainment franchises. Who doesn't love a good vampire series (especially when the vampires don't sparkle. LOL)? Bran Castle in Romania is where they film Subspecies. (https://foreverfinalgirl.com/subspecies/) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/22 Full Review Audience Member "The vampires killed the Turks." American post-graduate students studying abroad in southeastern Europe fight for survival after getting mixed up in a battle between two vampire brothers one of whom is very Nosferatu-inspired. The nearby town is full of people who are proud of their connection to Vlad Dracul, proud of the vampire legend, yet many don't appreciate outsiders poking around. Decent dialogue with cool practical effects (I want a finger daemon!), and good-looking sets and locations (especially the beautiful fortress). Filmed in Romania soon after the fall of communism, the students travel around in a Trabant. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review alex r Terrible beyond belief, it was borderline torture to watch. Aside from the campy intro and half-assed decent setting, everything else was abysmal. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Before I start bashing this movie, let me start with the actual Blu-ray 20th anniversary edition quality. It's terrible! It's not even 1080p, The picture quality is comparable to a DVD. The so-called special features aren't exactly all that special. Having six movie trailors do not count as special, certainly not in my book. And what's with that video Zone first subspecies. Not exactly special either. You would think that full moon would at least go the extra mile when it comes to special features especially if they're going to release it as a 20th anniversary Blu-ray. And that includes a better digital transfer. Now that I got that out of the way, let's get to this cheesy movie. And that's what it is a Cheesy low-budget movie with so-called special effects if that's what you want to call it. The evil vampire is obviously a cheap knockoff of the old silent movie Nosferatu. The movie, The acting, the story and the effects had me rolling my eyes so far back in my head I ended up with a headache. And I've seen plenty of low budget movies, like Flash Gordon and even Plan 9 from Outer Space. But at least those movies were so bad they were good. Subspecies went right past good and went right back to bad. How this movie got an 80% from Rotten Tomatoes is beyond me. But, then again, people have been known to rush to theaters to see other crap like Batman versus Superman, and don't even get me started on that! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Can't figure out why anyone likes this - horrible animation (what passed for special effects then), poor acting, etc Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
