Stylishly frenetic film making is a fun but overlong riff on the video game-as-film motif Tykwer molded to perfect in "Run Lola Run".

A bizarre cinematic computer game. It's so much like a computer game that it becomes its biggest downfall. Characters come and go without much development and the action scenes are used mainly to give everybody something to do. The cinematography is also far too grimy and independent to really showcase the action and effects. There are some nice ideas here, though it never really explores relevant issues such as the youth of today living their lives through such games, or the battle between reality and fiction. Some scenes are wonderful as work as commercial sized moments of "Wow" "Ooh" and such. The length is also painful as the point and story seems to be something that could have sustained 80 minutes at the most. The double ending is quite a nice touch and some of the moments are darkly comic.

Come unire Matrix, L'esercito delle 12 scimmie, Existenz, Tron e Die Hard in un solo film di due ore tutto solo di sparatorie, catastrofi, esplosioni, inseguimenti, lotte, stragi, distruzioni e omicidi? Costato sicuramente moltissimo, "Resurrection of the little match girl" ("La resurrezione della piccola fiammiferaia") è esattamente tutto ciò: un ragazzo scopre che esiste un gioco elettronico nella realtà , scopre che molta gente ci sta giocando, che in ballo c'è veramente la propria vita e comincia a entrare in questo mondo violento e assurdo, assumendo sempre più armi, poteri e quindi passando a livelli superiori. E allora giù con lanciarazzi, elicotteri, palazzi che esplodono, panico di massa, intere stazioni distrutte o i cui passanti sono falcidiati da tremende scariche di mitra, molto peggio di Doom, ma a Seul, in pieno centro, e di giorno! ^_^ Ma il "sistema" in realtà è diventato qualcosa di sbagliato, e così il suo creatore, estromesso da tempo dal sistema che lui stesso aveva creato, immette un virus nel gioco per scombinare tutto e sgominare tutti.
Il film fa anche a tempo a tirare qualche frecciata alla cultura postmoderna, non sempre riuscendoci però, poiché il gioco del "guardate: ormai la vita è un videogioco" è un po' troppo scoperto. Vale certamente però come film d'azione, che pur con grandi difetti (sostanzialmente una certa ridondanza e una eccessiva fumettosità ) ci regala un'orgia di stragi, mitragliatrici e azione come nemmeno nei sogni più proibiti di ogni amante dello "sparatutto".
Particolare menzione a una colonna sonora di remix elettro-pop di vecchissime canzoni, assolutamente perfetta e molto originale.
