      martin b A loser when it was made, perhaps because of the subject matter, it holds up well over time as social commentary. Excellent film. Bergman brilliant as the bitter, scandalized woman the perfectly elegant aged to perfection beauty on the hunt for retribution. Scowling, sneering, contemptuous at the right time with a radiant smile at others. Quinn never disappoints the perfect victim of Bergman's cunning plot. Watch it, you won't be disappointed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie makes you have all sorts of different feelings for different characters at different times throughout this funny little movie and you are never sure which way it is going to go. Ingrid is superb and Anthony as usual doesn't disappoint. I liked this movie enough to watch it a second time and appreciated it all the more the second time as I knew what was going on. You need to watch it to know what I mean. I good story, not sure why its not more well known. At one time years previously she was going to wed one of the local boys (Anthony Quinn) but that didn't happen for some reason. Anyway, its good she's back now...or is it? One of the best films on the destructive power of complacency with its main problem being the miscasting of Ms. Bergman who for all her monumental talent, fails to impress as a soul once forced into a life of prostitution for years, undercutting the opening premise of the work.
