Stefan Birgir Stefans sbs.is It's more of a remake of the original Subspecies inspired by Interview with the Vampire, with weaker characters, and even though it is filmed on film, it has more of a made-for-TV feel to it. Audience Member Zachary is something like a hooker with a heart of gold. He's a vampire with a conscience, hunting down the bloodline of vampires that made him like a gaijin Alucard from the Castlevania games. So yeah, the vampires have even turned the love of his life into one of them, so he must destroy her and her master Serena — last seen in Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm which comes out a year after this so, you know, it's alright if you're confused — with the enchanted sword of Laertes. The rest of the film is all about Ash trying to take out our hero, using a pianist named Sofia to draw him out by drinking her blood and making her one of his followers. And then there's another vampiric consort named Iris who decides to throw a wrench in destiny. Consider this one a side mission in the world of Subspecies, as all of these characters will get involved in the next one. Full Moon would later remake this as Decadent Evil. If you'd like to see a cutdown version of this movie, it is the "Undead Evil" chapter of their anthology film I, Vampire. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member It got blood and gore a must watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly good for a low-budget, independent film. I did not expect to be as entertained as I was. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member no surprizes but well done atmosphere Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I am as surprised as any of you... I actually liked this film. The cinematography was way better than any Charles Band film usually has. The sets, costumes, and cast carried a great atmosphere. This was a classic vampire tale without getting stupid. There were even little flourishes of side characters. The actresses playing Sofia and Iris are gorgeous and give the film that sensual touch. Ash, the master vampire, has a real Christopher Heyerdahl from the 'Twilight' films thing going on. Zach has a weird bony face, but it fits his vampire with a conscience character and clearly he was cast for his voice. Of course this film is a cash in on "Interview With A Vampire", but I think Charles Band inadvertently produced a very decent vampire film. One I would recommend to any vampire fan for a classic vampire tale.
