William L Film has been a means of both artistic expression and delivering insights on unexposed injustices, such as the suffering of the world's poor. There have been all manner of clever, profound means of accomplishing the latter throughout the existence of films, from in-depth and well-researched documentaries that have demanded great sacrifice and risk to their creators, to hard-hitting dramas that combine human elements with distinct components of regional identity to hammer home their themes. Too Early/Too Late doesn't really compare favorably to any of these other forms of film, listing off metrics and historical data as narration over a montage of different settings, often 360° panning shots of different landscapes, or static documentation of life passing around the camera. The narration itseld takes up maybe 5% of the running time, while the remainder is silent. If that's sounds boring to you, it is, and it also sorely lacks in both subtletly and power. It's a film where you can easily respect the motivations behind its creation (and the intent to frame the tedium of daily life against the tumultuous history that created these placid moments), but the design is far from compelling. Just because a film takes on a serious topic, doesn't mean it has to be mind-bendingly dull. (2.5/5) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/21 Full Review Audience Member Another boring avant garde flick. A bunch of long boring shots of random landscapes and people doing random boring stuff. There was an audio track with people reading selections from Marxist books but I was unable to find a subtitle file and from what I read it wasn't really pertinent to what was filmed.
