Audience Member Trooper just rocked my fucking world! It's like I was watching myself. Like being with an old friend. Please don't stop putting this content out. I'll contribute in any way I can! I will do everything gratis. We, as veterans, need this. We need more of this. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago. I had no idea and lived with it for 25 years... I have no PTS, mostly physical. I'm an informed man and had no idea... Thank you sir. I actually have tears writing this, but I'll never admit having said that! What you're doing is helping more than you know, because it's not the veteran who needs to see this... it's those around them. Family, friends... As vets, we get it! It's those who never experienced it who don't. They don't need to approve, they just need to understand. That's who this message is for. Keep moving forward my friend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Don't just take it from me, take it from over 13,000 people that have viewed the trailer of this outstanding award winning film of compassion here: https://youtu.be/OTE-NG7BBhQ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Trooper is an emotionally powerful movie about a serviceman struggling with medical issues as a result of his deployment in Iraq. As he is doing that, he is also wrestling with the estranged relationship he has with his father, a Vietnam War veteran. The story is well-crafted; the acting, editing, and pacing top-notch. Overall production values are high quality. How the serviceman, played by Christopher Martini who also wrote the screenplay and directed the movie, overcomes his many obstacles is one of the most deft conclusions I have seen in a movie. Well done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Trooper is a very moving film that features a cast of very talented actors. The plot line is simply masterful. The post-war experiences of both a father and son play out in a very emotional story that highlights the post-traumatic effects that so many Veterans experience after returning from the battlefield. One hundred percent two thumbs up! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Tight directing. Difficult and weighty subject matter thoughtfully treated in this quick-paced feature. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member An entertaining and insightful film about an OIF veteran, Murph, who returns home from war and wants to rebuild his life but is sick and unsure why. As a sick OIF infantry veteran myself, I can say that Murph's return to civilian life and his quest for healing is remarkably true-to-life, all the way down to the minor details such as his interactions with people both familiar to him and strange. As regards the major details, TROOPER goes beyond the conventional PTSD trope and accurately depicts an individual experience of a lesser-known epidemic that thousands of veterans endure on a daily basis: symptoms of an illness or illnesses that are not recognized much less remedied by the VA nor, in many cases, understood by medical science in general. Like Murph, many of these veterans start to suspect that the cause of their unusual suffering can be traced back to their exposure to hazardous substances while serving overseas. In Murph's words, "I'm sick… I don't know what it was, it could've been anything over there." Eventually, he suspects that his suffering can be traced back to depleted uranium exposure, one of the deadliest and most common exposures faced by today's military personnel alongside burn pits and chemical weapons. Overall, I enjoyed the movie and learned more about myself and the bigger picture. If you're aware of how hard it was for sick 9/11 responders and their advocates to secure medical care and financial aid for exposure related illnesses, you can imagine how hard it's been—and will continue to be—for veterans and their advocates to achieve the same. TROOPER and the impetus behind it is on the right side of history. I highly recommend it to anyone but especially to veterans and veteran supporters seeking insight into what it's like for us to return sick, confused, and betrayed by the very institutions in place to care for us.
