Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson). Ultimo capitolo di una saga dal grande successo di critica e di pubblico che, almeno a livello di spettacolarità, non ha nulla da temere rispetto ai precedenti capitoli. Sicuramente resta di altissimo livello l'utilizzo della CGI e di ambientazioni sempre varie e differenti dal precedente capitolo; così come è differente il protagonista "umano" che però questa volta si limita ad essere un puro e spietato villain abbastanza anni '90 come mentalità. La sceneggiatura è sufficiente ma non eccelle, troppi sono i punti di domanda che accompagnano la trama e non viene adeguatamente introdotta proprio la storia del villain. Manca inoltre un vero protagonista umano, di cui si percepisce l'assenza soprattutto durante le lunghe sequenze comprendenti solo scimmie al suo interno. Anche le sequenze di azione, per quanto estremamente spettacolari, lasciano intravedere qualche grande forzatura che non si era mai notata in precedenza. Un pop corn movie di azione, che a livello di struttura lascia meno rispetto al resto della saga.

A fumbling of the epic promised by its immaculate predecessor. Caesar’s tale suffers by virtue of the terrific insight into his psyche - his being - provided by the prior films; this feels like an unnecessary retreading with little new to say. Worse still, some of his decisions threaten to contradict his thoroughly established nature. The tense, intricate dynamics between the vying rulers of the planet are here reduced to a far more crude, sometimes even cartoonish, form. The mounting contrivances almost defy belief given the filmmaking proficiency previously on display. Said proficiency still ensures that this is a worthwhile experience.
