James Mudge easternKicks.com Though not the craziest Shaw Brothers' production of the era, it's very enjoyable, and fans of sleaze and connoisseurs of far-out trash should appreciate its schlocky charms. Rated: 4/5 Oct 25, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I wish I could rate this film higher but I can't. Let's start with the positives, The films looks fantastic something about these old Shaw brother films always look so appealing and I believe this was actually shot in Malaysia which is a beautiful country as it is. The maniac itself looks funny in my opinion and watching that thing do kung fu and growl every second is hilarious but it gets a bit boring after a while. Getting into the negatives now the film is awfully repetitive which gets a little bit boring after a while and also there is virtually no gore and barely any blood in this film which is what a lot of people expect when watching these type of films but the worst of the worst is the special effects. I don't like cgi in films now never mind 1970s Hong Kong. They're so bad they're not even good or laughable they just ruin the film for me and I'm someone who doesn't really care about stuff like this in old cult films but damn they're horrible. But nevertheless oily Maniac is worth a watch it's fun but don't expect it to be your new favourite cult film cos I doubt it will be Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Stone cold oily classic, a Meng Ha Huo must see for those in the know. JP. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Bon? Non. Cheap, sleazy et divertissant? Oh que oui!!! ;) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Hongkongi trash egy nyomorà (C)k emberrÅ'l, aki rögvest átváltozik olajszörnnyà (C) amint bármilyen olaj à (C)ri a testà (C)t. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Ett oljigt monster löper amok. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I love how even the Flixster synopsis of this film says, "A cripple takes revenge...". Jesus, Danny Lee cannot catch a break. What we have here is a strange Shaw Bros superhero/horror movie/crime movie mash up, complete with vigilantism, a ridiculous monster and the Jaws theme. Though most would probably shut this off after 25 minutes I was entertained throughout the running time. Now hopefully Oily Maniac can team up with Spider-man for the next film. They can call it, "Now That There's Some Fucked Up Shit: The Movie". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
