While investigating a homicide, Detective Rebecca Madsen discovers fingerprints that belong to a former Alcatraz inmate, who was believed to have died decades earlier. A family past with the prison makes her especially interested in the case, so she turns to an Alcatraz expert and comic-book enthusiast, Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto for help piecing together what happened. Together, they discover that the suspect is alive and appears not to have aged since his incarceration and that soon he will be joined by other former inhabitants of the prison.

Though it involves a mysterious and intriguing premise, Alcatraz delivers the plot through lumbering, humorless means.

David Hinckley New York Daily News Happily, there are reasons to watch Alcatraz, starting with an appealing cast and a premise that really does not require a college degree in the mythology of other worlds. Rated: 3/5 Jan 16, 2012 Full Review Nancy DeWolf Smith Wall Street Journal Inquiring minds who liked Lost, or The 4400 and The Event will find much to feast on. Jan 16, 2012 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times Alcatraz is a spunky upgrade over the collection of interchangeable police procedurals clogging the television schedule. Jan 16, 2012 Full Review Kieron Tyler The Arts Desk As it is, it's about as good, and about as diverting as the post X-Files conspiracy series Dark Skies. Aug 18, 2018 Full Review Megan Basham WORLD The overarching storyline is filled with enough of the supernatural to hold the attention of those who prefer their cast threatened by the occasional smoke monster. Jun 25, 2018 Full Review Ellen Gray Philadelphia Daily News I'm not hooked, but I'm not yet planning my escape, either. Jan 16, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews
