Steve Johnson Chicago Tribune An hour long and laugh-track free, it certainly stretches the definition of TV comedy. In the abstract, it is probably easier to think of it as a drama with humor. But it is, after all, very funny. Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Belinda Acosta Austin Chronicle Kelley is capable of taking the dramedy and making a much bigger mark. So when I witness his oeuvre veering from once-insightful observations of contemporary women into male fantasies of female eroticism, infantalized women... I want to scream. Mar 12, 2019 Full Review John Carman San Francisco Chronicle "Ally McBeal" is where it's most conspicuous that Kelley is spread too thin... That show has drifted free of any plausible moorings. Mar 12, 2019 Full Review Irish Times Staff Irish Times There's nothing radical or complex about the twee, self-indulgent sludge which passes for plot in [Ally McBeal]. Mar 12, 2019 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) The fact is that I just don't care about any of these characters anymore. While they used to be endearingly offbeat, now they're just annoyingly strange. Mar 12, 2019 Full Review Tony Norman Pittsburgh Post-Gazette In just five minutes, Flockhart's Ally threw out two seasons worth of character development, a record for prime-time lasciviousness, I believe. Ken D I’m binge-watching and by season 3 it has become very clear that Ally Mcbeal deflates the show with her ever-needy, selfish, slutish approach. Georgia and Nellie are far more interesting, as is Ling. In fact, the writers have made Ally so unlikeable without realising she is meant to be the light of the show which bears her name. The writers also missed a trick in that Ally clearly suffers from schizophrenia which is sadly and pathetically passed off with a suggestion of Prozac - how sad that such an important issue is trivialised!
