      Season 1 – American Dad!

      2005 Comedy Animation List
Reviews 80% 100+ Ratings Audience Score Stan Smith is a CIA agent painfully dedicated to homeland security. His home life includes doting wife Francine, a ditzy housewife, liberal daughter Hayley and socially awkward teenaged son Steve. Also living in the family's Langley Falls, Va., home are Klaus, a goldfish with the brain of an East German Olympic ski jumper, and Roger, an escaped alien from Area 51, who Stan houses in defiance of his employer due to owing Roger a "life debt." Sounds just like the typical American family, right? Maybe not. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Aug 20 Buy Now

Truman S Great show lots of slapstick but also smart humor. Roger is one of the funniest tv characters ever and overall I like the whole Smith family. Seth Macfarlane did it again! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Ryan M American Dad! season 1 begins the adventures with the Smith Family and their friends. The main characters include Stan Smith, Francine Smith, Hayley Smith, Steve Smith, Roger Smith, Klaus, Snot Lonstein, Barry Robinson, Toshi Yoshida, Debbie Hyman and Jeff Fischer. Stan going on mission and keeping his family safe, Steve and Debbie being a couple and going on adventures and Francine going on adventures with Stan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review David W American Dad's first season gets its groove very quickly. While a lot of shows have first seasons that feel very much like a first season, American Dad gets to a familiar pattern after just a few episodes. I would definitely revisit this season and I'm excited to see what Season 2 has to offer. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty great start to an awesome series! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Normally I don't review shows that don't have a consensus to go with their Tomatometer but since American Dad! takes place in the same universe as Family Guy, I think this counts as loophole abuse of some sort. American Dad!, like most shows, takes a while to find its feet but it eventually becomes a laugh riot that manages to distance itself from Family Guy without feeling completely disconnected, even with the lack of cutaway gags being something I didn't like at first. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a great show. And I hate that Family Guy is so overrated, and this show rarely gets the recognition it deserves. It will always be smarter, and funnier Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

William Thomas Empire Magazine Oft-dismissed as Family Guy's lesser sibling - or, as The Simpsons put it, a "plagiarismo di plagiarismo" - this season is arguably better than either Seth MacFarlane's first attempt or recent seasons from America's first family. Rated: 4/5 Oct 18, 2017 Full Review Tony Nigro Common Sense Media Issues like patriotism, generational divide, political activism, and traditional gender roles are addressed here, all with more fantasy than reality, but enough of the latter to touch a nerve with some grown-ups. Rated: 3/5 Oct 3, 2018 Full Review Michael Drucker IGN Movies When it's on, and it usually is, the show's stories are extremely strong, engrossing, and hilarious. It only comes down to wading through the weaker couple episodes to get to the good ones. Rated: 7/10 Oct 3, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
