Alan Sepinwall Rolling Stone As before, Betty remains a mix of gentle comedy and unexpectedly potent drama. Kirt is still the primary source of laughs, particularly as her lessons to the skater boys about how to treat women better go off the rails. Rated: 4/5 Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter Betty is best when it gives viewers the near-documentary sense that they're just embedded with these young women. Things come together beautifully by the season finale. Jun 4, 2021 Full Review Shanicka Anderson AV Club Betty manages to deliver the same slice-of-life charm of season one, even while set against the sobering reality of a global pandemic and the feverish June protests. Rated: B+ Jun 4, 2021 Full Review Megan Sunday The Spool Betty, flaws and all, is a joyful piece of television. Jun 15, 2021 Full Review Valerie Ettenhofer Film School Rejects The story Moselle is telling may seem effortless, but there's an assured sense of rebellion and self-awareness in every carefree group skate shot. Audience Member Betty's second season is even more progressive and daring than the first, and it also has the distinction for being the first series to accurately portray life during the Covid-19 pandemic. It's no secret that skateboard culture was alive and well during lockdown, and Betty presents the pseudo-clandestine arenas many youths were taking part in, as well as the additional risks. Also, like the first season, Betty is highly commendable for its themes regarding sexuality and consent, and one of the season's strongest subplots involve Kirt, a lesbian character, giving sex advice to straight men. Shot with a vibrancy that feels simultaneously observational and meditative, and often as serene as dream pop, Betty really doesn't feel like anything else currently airing, and this season's only true flaw might be that it's too short! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Five stars for the first season, which was almost perfect, and four for the second - not quite as good, but still better than most shows out there. This is a real hidden gem, check it out! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The second season is not bad but also not as good as the first one. The storylines this season are just okay... the music is awesome though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
