      Season 2 – Cheers

      1983 Comedy List
100% 18 Reviews Tomatometer 95% Fewer than 50 Ratings Audience Score Laid-back Sam Malone, a former relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, owns and runs Cheers, a cozy bar in Boston. He hires smart, uptight -- and jilted -- Diane Chambers as a server, out of sympathy, but their attraction causes constant bickering. Wacky characters fill the bar: sarcastic waitress Carla, beer-loving accountant Norm, know-it-all postman Cliff. When Diane leaves Boston much later, Sam sells the bar, buys a boat and sails the world, but his boat sinks, so he returns. New, ambitious manager Rebecca Howe hires him back, but they love to hate each other too. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Sep 26 Buy Now

      Critics Consensus

Cheers' second season might be remembered for establishing the relationship between Sam and Diane, but the entire cast of characters is the glue that holds this show together -- and continually makes it clear that there are boundless story opportunities.

Audience Member I've thoroughly enjoyed two sitcoms in my entire life, both before my "time" and this is one of them. Hilarious and fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review dave d If you're feeling down Cheers will brighten your day! It's like a reunion Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member An even better sophomore year, that benefits from Sam and Diance transgressing from a flirtation to a full-on complicated romantic relationship. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Season 2 of Cheers serves up a barrel of laughs as the show gets even funnier. Picking up where the last season left off, ladies' man and bartender extraordinaire Sam Malone meets his match when he starts to date Diane Chambers, a sassy, quick-witted waitress. Progressing the Sam-Diane relationship proves to spicin' up the character dynamics, delivering a new level of hilarity. And several of the other main cast members are also developed, and get more interesting (particularly Coach and Cliff). Additionally, the season attracts some impressive guest stars, including Corey Feldman, Markie Post, and Christopher Lloyd. The second season of Cheers is a lot of fun and continues to deliver hilarious tavern adventures. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Art Chapman Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com There was really no reason to worry about Cheers. It is one show that has enough quality to age well and increase in value. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Noel Holston Orlando Sentinel What follows is sweet, sexy, witty, totally captivating comedy, written by people who know something about life and love and acted by a cast whose selection was kismet. Everybody who makes comedy shows should be watching and taking notes. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Mike Duffy Detroit Free Press Besides the exceptional wit of the writing and the care with which this character comedy has been crafted, the main asset Cheers possesses is its near perfect casting. There is a true ensemble, as in Taxi or M*A*S*H. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Vernon Scott United Press International Cheers falls considerably short of celestial rapture, but in the blighted wastes of TV sitcoms it is a nirvana of sophistication, charm and humor. Jun 14, 2021 Full Review Bill Hayden Gannett News Service As much as Sam and Diane, these regulars are what make Cheers the brightest, wittiest half-hour currently residing in prime time. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Mike Boone Montreal Gazette I haven't been this happy about a break-up since Led Zeppelin packed it in. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
