Chicago P.D.'s Intelligence Unit, led by Sgt. Hank Voight, investigates the city's most formidable offenses -- drug trafficking, organized crime, high-profile murders and other large-scale felonies. The squad -- made up of Voight, Trudy Platt, Kim Burgess, Adam Ruzek, Kevin Atwater, Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton -- is committed to protecting the city and seeking truth, but in the midst of a changing criminal justice system, the team struggles to maintain peace in the community. Voight must learn to adapt to a shifting sociopolitical climate and embrace new tactics to crack down on crime in the city he loves.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it suggests potential for greater success, Chicago P.D. is ultimately an old school cop show, content to mimic Hill Street Blues and other classic procedurals.

Tim Goodman The Hollywood Reporter There's enough hardened acting chops to make Chicago P.D. a watchable distraction in the Dick Wolf mode. Sep 18, 2018 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune [Chicago PD] looks to portray police work the old school way: tough, dirty and not without personal costs... Is it a touch overheated at times? Yes. But it hits the spot. Sep 18, 2018 Full Review Ray Rahman Entertainment Weekly It's hard to imagine the series capturing the compelling, can't-watch-just-one magic that makes the Law & Order franchise so marathonable, but it moves just fast enough to keep you from changing the channel in search of an SVU re-run. Rated: B Jan 10, 2014 Full Review Brittany Frederick CBR Season 1 is far better than One Chicago fans remember. Rated: 8/10 Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Stuart Galbraith DVDTalk.com There is a bit more emphasis on story, suspense, and action compared to Chicago Fire,.. though both programs are well above average. Sep 18, 2018 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media The characters are nice to look at (too nice to be realistic, actually, but oh well), have satisfyingly heroic-yet-complicated backstories, and the action is fast and furious since this show lacks the courtroom aspect of the L&O shows. Carlo B A well done serie, maybe not a masterwork but entertaining. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Peter D One of the best tv shows ever. One might have a gut reaction that this is a throwback to yester year when men were Neanderthals. I disagree. The characters are shallow sure but not predictable. Policing is a big deal in the present day, even more so than than a decade or two ago. The ussues are real enough. For those who like CPD watch Justified. Its even better. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review Julie G Chicago Pd keeps getting better with every episode. I love all of the characters especially Donte Torres. He brings emotion, vulnerability, and realness. I'm glad the writers included him into the show and in the intelligence unit team after Jay left. I cought up on previous seasons/episodes I've missed because of Dante's character. I stopped watching after Erin left but then when I got caught up on what I've missed, I wasn't disappointed with the seasons/episodes after Erin left. If anything, Chicago is much better. If your a viewer who has stopped watching after Erin left, try watching again, you won't regret it especially with Dante. (All the characters are wonderful but Dante is my favorite new comer). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This show is fantastic! I highly recommend it! The cast is wonderful! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It is at first a relatively confusing plot but after a while you start to understand it. In the begining you had a hard time sypephising with the characters because of their brutality but when you start to understand why they did the way they did you start to like them more. All in all a good start to a great series Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member i thing it is amazing Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
