Cybill Sheridan is a 40-something actress living in Los Angeles. Past her prime and working in an industry that worships youth, Cybill has the remnants of her two failed marriages all around her. Her ex-husbands, stuntman Jeff and novelist Ira, are always hanging around, sometimes sleeping on the couch. Also present are her two daughters, a grandson, and Cybill's hysterical and slightly alcoholic best friend, Maryann.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Cybill has pluck thanks to the riotous chemistry between Cybill Shepherd and a standout Christine Baranski, but crude zingers and stale satire keep this sitcom from being an ideal star vehicle.

Tom Shales Washington Post Cybill, CBS's new Cybill Shepherd sitcom, is smart, salty, sprightly and sexy, but no, she doesn't sell sea shells by the seashore. Jun 11, 2019 Full Review John J. O'Connor New York Times Cybill tries hard -- sometimes too hard -- to be outrageous... Still, Ms. Shepherd and Ms. Baranski have their delightful moments. And the series appears to be getting stronger. Jun 11, 2019 Full Review Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times Just how long Cybill flames on CBS remains to be seen, but the premiere indicates that the future could be bright. Jun 11, 2019 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Fun '90s sitcom has feminist themes and some sexy talk. Rated: 4/5 Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Joyce Millman San Francisco Examiner Get loose, Cybill. Stop worrying about being a role model and spouting that New Age stuff about the crone being revered by tribal societies for her wisdom. Be a crone, if you must. But don't forget to be a clown, too. Jun 12, 2019 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel Shepherd shouldn't need additional work for at least the next five years. She has gotten Cybill right: The comedy is smart, sophisticated and sharply executed. Jun 11, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
