It's like they never left. The mighty Southfork Ranch is bristling once again with secrets, schemes and betrayals as J.R., Bobby and Sue Ellen are joined by the next generation of Ewings, who renew old family rivalries and reignite a Texas-sized power struggle. John Ross -- J.R. and Sue Ellen's son -- is determined to strike it rich by drilling for oil on Ewing land, a plan opposed by Bobby's adopted son, Christopher, who wants the family business to focus on alternative energy sources. When tragedy strikes, Bobby becomes the unofficial caretaker of the Ewing family, and he will do whatever it takes to safeguard his interests, even if it means turning against his nephew.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Dallas' veteran stars add zest to the suitably soapy proceedings, but many viewers will find this reboot to be a stilted imitation that offers few pleasures beyond its own nostalgia.

Tim Goodman The Hollywood Reporter This is a remake that should never have been remade. Jun 13, 2012 Full Review Willa Paskin Salon.com Audiences new to Dallas would be better served by alternating between Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Deadliest Catch. Audiences that love Dallas should stick to reruns. Jun 13, 2012 Full Review Robert Bianco USA Today You can find mummies who look fresher than this mold-encrusted relic, and who have newer ideas in their empty, embalmed heads. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 13, 2012 Full Review Fiona Sturges The Arts Desk The mama of American soap operas returns with its glorious absurdity intact. Jul 23, 2018 Full Review Glenn Garvin Miami Herald Like its ancestor, the new Dallas is self-consciously a trashfest, an endless cycle of betrayals, confrontations, reconciliations and re-betrayals. Jun 13, 2012 Full Review Curt Wagner RedEye Some of the dialogue is groan-worthy, some plot turns totally predictable and some of the soapy silliness is just, well, silly.
