It's like they never left. The mighty Southfork Ranch is bristling once again with secrets, schemes and betrayals as J.R., Bobby and Sue Ellen are joined by the next generation of Ewings, who renew old family rivalries and reignite a Texas-sized power struggle. John Ross -- J.R. and Sue Ellen's son -- is determined to strike it rich by drilling for oil on Ewing land, a plan opposed by Bobby's adopted son, Christopher, who wants the family business to focus on alternative energy sources. When tragedy strikes, Bobby becomes the unofficial caretaker of the Ewing family, and he will do whatever it takes to safeguard his interests, even if it means turning against his nephew.

David Hinckley New York Daily News If things feel a little contrived, or a lot contrived, that's hardly a first for the show. They're also tangled and messy and dastardly with a real shot at becoming sordid. That's a good start. Rated: 3/5 Feb 24, 2014 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety The show just appears to be recycling earlier beats, resulting in flourishes that feel more suited to daytime soaps than primetime serials. Feb 19, 2014 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers The young bloods played by Henderson, Metcalfe and Jordana Brewster (Elena Ramos) kept it interesting. But, ultimately the bother of keeping up with what was happening at such breakneck speed was more trouble than it was worth. Rated: C+ Jan 18, 2015 Full Review Amanda Gilroy PopMatters The real pleasures of the new Dallas involve engaging with repetition in all its forms and taking melodrama seriously, for this is a series that pushes at the boundaries of its genre. Rated: 7/10 Aug 18, 2014 Full Review Christine Orlando TV Fanatic I loved that they opened with Bobby visiting the family grave site and that he still talks to Mama. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 5, 2014 Full Review Matt Roush TV Guide This Dallas isn't half as good as the landmark soap whose legacy is tarnished by the cardboard pawns of the next generation, carrying out their sexual mergers and secret agendas with a uniform lack of conviction or dynamism.
