What to Know

Critics Consensus

Eli Stone may win over many converts with its inspired flourishes and Johnny Lee Miller's affable performance, but the series' surreality is often at odds with its alter ego as a standard court drama.

Tom Shales Washington Post Jonny Lee Miller, in the title role, makes Eli Stone appealing enough for an audience to actually care about his fate... The series itself is at least different, if not quite as novel as it looks in the promos. Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Tim Goodman San Francisco Chronicle In Eli Stone, Berlanti benefits from great casting, strong acting and mostly inspired writing. Just when you think the show is going to be stupid, the writing stands up, managing to be both funny and moving. Nov 16, 2018 Full Review John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture Eli Stone manages each week so far to float its hallucinations, its production numbers, its litigations, and its do-gooder causes on a high and churning tide of charm. Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Christopher Lawrence Las Vegas Review-Journal With the show's offbeat cases and moments of song, you'd swear Berlanti has David E. Kelley tied up in his basement and is pumping him for information. But Eli Stone is still the most instantly likable new drama you're going to see for quite a while. Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Robert Canning IGN Movies There's a lot of potential in Eli Stone. The idea still remains intriguing, the right actors are in place and the characters have a decent, though so far generic start. Rated: 6.9/10 Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) I loved this show when it debuted. After seven episodes, I love it even more. Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Sam R It was great! Can't believe I never discovered this show when it was current. ABC evidently didn't do it justice on promotion. Unique concept, imaginative situations, and… funny! Jonny Lee Miller's performance as an actor is excellent, and his difficulty maintaining an authentic American English accent over his native British accent is only mildly distracting. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A fresh take on the legal drama. I discovered it by accident and was quite pleasantly surprised. It is charming and let me wonder why it was ever cancelled? Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
