David W Futurama’s eighth season at times feels like a mismatch of callbacks to old fan favorites. However, a few key episodes deliver the show’s characteristic heart in a fresh new way, and for that, I would absolutely watch this season again. In a landscape where long-running animated series like The Simpsons have shown signs of fatigue, Futurama Season 8 stands tall, proving it still has plenty of fuel left in its tank. It's a compelling argument that creators should shift their focus from the overextended Springfield to the futuristic world of New New York, a testament to the show's ability to stay fresh and relevant. Season 8 fearlessly embraces the absurdity that has become synonymous with Futurama. From its trademark blend of cool sci-fi narratives to its brilliantly creative humor, each episode delivers a mix of laughter, awe, and even heartfelt moments (cue the tears with the unforgettable "Jurassic Bark" episode). However, even as the show boldly ventures into new territory, it's not without its flaws. A half star must be deducted for its overreliance on topical gags, a misstep that feels out of place in a series set a millennium ahead of our time. While such humor may work for contemporaneous shows like The Simpsons and South Park in Futurama, these references often feel forced and disrupt the flow of the narrative. Rated 2/5 Stars •  Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/21/23 Full Review Paul A So I picked 3 stars at "Meh, it passed the time", though I think it is better than "Meh", it was not really "good". Let's get one thing straight. Season 8 does not come CLOSE to its predecessors. It is quite obviously not the same writers or even the children of the older writers. lol Even if there is a few of the old ones, they were gone FAR too long. lol It simply does not have the same feel and the new jokes seem to rely heavily on new age politics and political agendas. Like most everything in this day and age. It is a pretty decent show and it has some good laughs and I wouldn't suggest "not to watch it", but just don't get you expectations too high!
