Phil Harrison Independent (UK) Get Millie Black lives and breathes. This might be a crime thriller, but it isn’t just a crime thriller. In the right hands, a crime thriller can contain multitudes. Rated: 4/5 Mar 7, 2025 Full Review Carol Midgley Times (UK) We got more story in the first 300 seconds than some series manage in an hour-long episode. Rated: 4/5 Mar 6, 2025 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times But the series belongs to Lawrance, who announces herself here not with a showy performance, but with an introspection that subtly reveals the pain... In other words, she gets Millie Black. Rated: 4/5 Mar 6, 2025 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) This is a drama rich in complexities. In a virtuoso performance, Lawrance holds the centre as the bold, uncompromising Millie Black. Rated: 4/5 Mar 9, 2025 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent A must-see. Mar 6, 2025 Full Review James Walton The Spectator A programme that’s by turns thrilling, touching and politically illuminating. Mar 6, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

pete m All I'm going to say is wow. Watched all episodes in one sitting. Terrific detective series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review Ash P Worth a good watch if you're interested in crime dramas. Especially if you want something original like this one, which takes place in Jamaica. Matter of fact, you don't see many Jamaican movies/tv shows nowadays, and I'm glad that I'd checked it out. Great acting, good writing, and pacing that makes the series sort and simple since this is a limited series. I admit, I would want more, but I'm more than fine for being a one and done run. Even when done by Marlon James himself. The development was sweet. Millie's life, as well, since it isn't just focused on her duties from former Scotland Yard detective to working at Kingston, we also see her interaction with her sister, Hibiscus, who both went through struggles when they were kids. Even her interactions with the rest of the precinct members were great. There are noticeable troupes that you do see from past crime drama TV series and some twists that do get me down, but it's how the series is paced, anyway. It's just nice to have a raw series with a fresh take, or rather in a new location. It's worth watching since each episode is about around an hour long. I give this series nine sisterly moments with Millie and Hibiscus out of ten. 9/10. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Andrei D Everyone works, characters have identities, there's a pressure to act, only the core police narrative is a little old-school Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review sam c It is short enough to invest time but I didn't really love it. Millie is not likable which I hate saying. It's more that she is so willing to sacrifice others during her crusade and is kind of missing the point to help many more than 1. I did like the family interactions. Interesting enough to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Audience Member There is some good stuff and interesting ideas here. But mostly it's trope city with at-best mediocre writing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Greg W Showing Kingston Jamaica in all its complex glory, the first 5 minutes had me hooked. I've only seen episode 1 but can tell that the characters will be so complex and there will be many more seasons to come. The burned in subtitles are very helpful to translate the patois.
