An aspiring writer and her three friends in New York try to make sense of what life has in store for them after college. They're not sure what they want or whom they want it from, and the picture isn't getting any clearer. Hannah thinks she has what it takes to be a successful writer, if only she would write something. She wants a boyfriend without dealing with an actual relationship, and she wants a job without having to work. Marnie is Hannah's best friend, a Type A personality who has a serious boyfriend and an actual job. Jessa is a devil-may-care bohemian whose apparent lack of fear hides her own kind of insecurity. Her cousin, Shoshanna, is an NYU student who would love nothing more than to experience a "Sex and the City" lifestyle. The others tend to underestimate Shoshanna, but she proves to be a sharp source of wisdom.

Eric Deggans NPR Even when Girls infuriated me it always moved me. Nov 26, 2019 Full Review Rebecca Nicholson Guardian It's been witty and inventive, ugly and ridiculous. It juggles despair and dark humour with deceptive dexterity. It has moments that are breathtakingly confident. Aug 7, 2018 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald A welcome catch-up with infuriating old friends who'll be gone all too soon. Mar 28, 2018 Full Review Allison Rose FlickDirect The season is well thought out and gripping and gives the audience some of that "personal growth" we have been wanting from these characters. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 6, 2019 Full Review Jourdain Searles Fishnet Cinema "American Bitch" is the strongest and most thought-provoking episode. Feb 5, 2019 Full Review Natalia Marcos El Pais (Spain) Hannah has managed to make her "voice of a generation" heard, just as her creator and interpreter has done it, a generation that is still lost but which, over the years, forces her to find her way, even if it is based on blows. Audience Member I never wanted this show to end! The characters are all likeable and so well-developed. I have been profoundly impressed with Lena Dunham's writing since the 1st episode. This show is truly unique, real, brave, fascinating, and addicting. The dialogue never fails to surprise me with more wit and intelligence than I was prepared for! I agree with the critics - "In its final season, Girls remains uncompromising, intelligent, character driven, & compassionate." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I wasn't too thrilled with the ending of the season. I feel like it was lazily cut off for Adam and Hannah's character dynamic after investing so much between them it was weird for him to randomly get back into her life for a what felt like a few hours or a day - in the near end. I was upset she ended alone with no real tied up vision for her future. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This was the series in which Girls jumped the shark, and ate itself with tired, cliched, and narcissistic plots. Adam and Jessa making a movie of their situation is the type of bullshit dross Jessa would have relentlessly mocked Hannah about in the first five seasons. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Shallow, awkward, and one noted, I increasingly disliked most of the characters. What exactly is the point of a bunch of selfish people who increasingly hate, hurt, dismiss, and discard each other? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member After six years of being a cringe-worthy (and necessary) expose on millenials, Girls finally comes to its long-awaited end game for its final season: adulthood. Lena Dunham does indeed bestow on her character a massive ultimatum this year (a plot point she had envisioned near the series' beginning), and the results stick with the show's crass and frank nature, but the series often takes unexpected turns towards heartbreaking. Dunham wisely keeps the fates of many of the show's characters subjective, but she also gives us well-built moments for viewers that have stuck with the show since the beginning, and the series finale is subdued, and unforgettable in a way few could have predicted. Few TV shows received as polarizing views (or blind hatred) as Girls did for its entire half-a-decade run, but it also undoubtedly improved each year, and now in its complete state, it can be considered one of HBO's most intelligent and non-conformist series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Brutally real. Taking on bigger issues this season. Wish they would have done that sooner. Witty and sharp - more mature. Hilarious scenes that take full advantage of the dark humor to serious topics. Me and my boyfriend could ot stop laughing during episode 2 when Marni's husband went off the deep end, at the cottage. Tears were rolling down our cheeks. So funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
