Optimistic teacher Will Schuester heads up McKinley High School's glee club -- New Directions -- a place where ambitious and talented students can find strength, acceptance and their voice. As the students find themselves, they also enjoy a respite from the harsh realities of life. Mr. Schuester hopes to help the kids in every way he can, and also dreams of taking the group to nationals. As Schuester and the glee club pursue their goal, they face opposition from a conniving cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester, who tries to sabotage the group at every turn.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Glee finds beauty in tragedy during a season that cathartically addresses the untimely passing of star Cory Monteith, while finding some new grace notes among its expansive ensemble, but the series is still indulging in the soporific tropes and cheesy self-seriousness that some viewers have come to dread.

Willa Paskin Slate Given Glee's proven ability to go maudlin and after-school-special-style on any and everything, "The Quarterback" was relatively restrained. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety Even those who have dutifully stuck with Glee -- through cast changes and increasingly tedious melodrama -- would mostly have to admit the show's best days are behind it, a bright light that burned itself out pretty quickly. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club This show has just never figured out how to integrate the new characters, has it?... It still feels weird to me how little I care about anyone in the new New Directions. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Kate Stanhope TV Guide The show returned from its extended hiatus re-energized and looking -- and more importantly sounding -- like its old self. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Kevin Fallon The Daily Beast The singing, dancing, and arpeggio of emotions you'd just witnessed will leave you brimming with so much unbridled, uncontainable joy that the only proper response is to spring up with applause and, well, glee. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Daniel Sperling Digital Spy One thing that's repeatedly proved to be true about Glee is that even when the direction it's going in is questionable, its execution can't be faulted. There was no need to worry. 'The Quarterback' is not cheesy, it's beautiful. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Chelsea R ill miss you cory. is also crazy to see lea Michele live playing funny girl 10 year later Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/29/25 Full Review Wayne V This is one of the worst seasons of Glee. There’s some good song versions mixed in there, mostly by old cast members or guests on the show, but the new cast mixed in with some of the old is bad. They don’t sound great together, they are missing great singers. The characters and plots are not interesting, the show is just done. The new cast members ruin the show for me. Not great actors nor singers, not appealing at all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Klber A Depois que focaram na Rachel, acabaram com a série! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review Jonathan Q One of the most beautiful 100 eps in network television history, now on streaming and the next eps It's pure of joy and heartbreaking social farewells. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Bingewatcher Fanatic It's not good it's the worst season only good episode is the tribute episode The Quarterback beautiful tribute to the late Cory Monteith. Overall left like the show should've ended here aswell with the 100th episode. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/22 Full Review Audience Member The first half was a mess. Rachel's character is destroyed but it was entertaining because of its ridiculousness. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
