Critics Consensus

Inappropriate to some and droll to others, Gossip Girl appeals to a broad audience with stylish costumes and a look into a nasty, upscale world.

LaToya Ferguson AV Club Gossip Girl depicted its characters' excessive power and wealth as a double-edged sword, but it still cast their Upper East Side ecosystem in an aspirational light, thanks to the audience surrogates in the Humphrey family. Sep 24, 2018 Full Review Robin Oliver Sydney Morning Herald Developed from novels by Cecily von Ziege, Gossip Girl has lots of characters and shifting relationships and could be heading for a longer run that The O.C. Feb 27, 2018 Full Review Kat Brown Empire Magazine Once the rubbish pilot is out of the way, Josh 'The OC' Schwartz's glossy new drama is a sparky pleasure. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2017 Full Review Michael Cuby them. Highly bingable... Sep 26, 2022 Full Review Seth Freilich Pajiba It's got all the elements of good, smutty, check-your-brain-at-the-door soapy distraction: mystery, scandal, bitches, and blandly attractive actors who can probably memorize all of their lines. Jun 11, 2018 Full Review Molly McLaughlin Bust Magazine Gossip Girl's portrayal of young women and their relationships was often highly nuanced. Oct 4, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Ben N This show is a soap opera. Every time a character is face with a decision, they make the bad decision. EVERY TIME. Rooting for these shallow and unrealistic characters is fun for about 3-4 episodes before you realize there is no realistic progression and that characters are whatever they need to be for the current episode to contain maximum drama. The plot is meaningless and no characters have a compass or guiding principles. It's escapism at it's worst and I hope no kids get any ideas that this is how anyone should act in reality. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Helen C Ok so gossip girl season one *check’s phone I’m sorry I have to go Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Stefano P I think the first season is brilliant and funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review emilie m Stopped watching after episode 7 because it's legit one of the most boring shows I've ever watched. I don't know how you can be interested in all their immature drama. After a while it gets boring and it's like get over it already. Cool aesthetics, boring show. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/17/23 Full Review Audience Member The season does well to get us grounded in the characters, focusing more on developing them instead of GG, having the blog serve as more of a commentator on events as opposed to running the show. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member very bad photography, LAZY and REPETITIVE script. Bad actors, but the worst ones were Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
