Tragedy strikes Gracepoint, a town in Northern California, when a young boy is found dead on a beach. When authorities quickly declare the death a homicide, the town's residents turn against one another, and a media frenzy erupts. Detective Emmett Carver, a by-the-book cop, is brought in to fill a high position in Gracepoint's police force and lead the investigation. Detective Ellie Miller, who had been promised Carver's position, must set aside her resentment about that and research the case with her new boss.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While it may suffer in comparison to its British predecessor Broadchurch, Gracepoint brings an engrossing, sophisticated, and stylish crime drama to network television with Anna Gunn as a commanding lead.

Eric Deggans NPR The best way to experience this reimagined story is through fresh eyes. Nov 27, 2019 Full Review David Wiegand San Francisco Chronicle Gracepoint isn't entirely hard to swallow. Just hard to care too much about. Rated: 2/4 Oct 13, 2014 Full Review Neela Debnath Independent (UK) Fox's eagerly anticipated Gracepoint aired last night but for anyone British in the audience the whole experience smacked of dj vu - and not in a good way. Oct 3, 2014 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages Four episodes in, FOX’s Gracepoint continues to reel me in with outstanding visuals, excellent pacing and perhaps the best all-around cast on television. Jun 23, 2023 Full Review Tom Fitzgerald and Lorenzo Marquez Tom & Lorenzo Gracepoint is Broadchurch with the two best aspects removed from it, making it an even more standard take on the average mystery show. Jun 8, 2018 Full Review Megan Basham WORLD Gracepoint isn't bad as a generic whodunit, but you don't have to be an Anglophile to see that the original, which was more interested in accurately representing small-town people and values, was far superior. Catriona M Why can’t Americans (USA) and American TV execs enjoy fantastic TV from the rest of the globe without bastardising the crap out of everything? Broadchurch was already amazing AND had Olivia Coleman acting with David Tennant. David is fantastic, because he is a fantastic actor. Watch Broadchurch Americans, learn about the world and the tv you are missing without it being baby fed to you. So many UK shows are made sh*t for the rest of the world by American TV execs Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review sarah l This show is just america and hollywood bastardising a good show that came from another country again. Save your time and just watch the original. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Steve W I started watching this 10 episode series, and could not stop. Finished over 1 Weekend + a night. Maybe not perfect in every way, but the gripping and with some solid real life characters. I'm guessing the down reviewers just feel the need to knock what is a great small town detective series. With added bonus of David 'Broadchurch' Tennant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Joy G Loved Brit og Broad Church and David Tennant, but this is a wholly unnecessary remake. Ann Gunn is miscast here, her character is bland, not believable, unsure why exactly. Apparently Hollywood thinks us dumb, so characters over explain unlike Brit og. Everyone is abrasive, secretive when you think they'd just want to find the killer, family included. Nothing new to say. Do yourself a favor & watch Broad church instead. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Poor acting from much of the cast, some dreadful hair and wardrobe, terrible "twist ending" that turns part of the plot into a plot hole. Waste of Tennant's and Weaver's talents. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Well it's true that i have a difficulty in separating Gracepoint and Broadchurch. I watched broadchurch from season 1 to season 3 and it kinda stuck in my head that made me hard to watch Gracepoint without comparing it to Broadchurch. But after a while a managed to do that and i realized Although Gracepoint has many scene (sometimes with the same angle) that similar to Broadchurch, the story, the characters nature, the ambience and the flow of the plot was different. Although similar, it was different. So i really suggest for the viewer who already watched Broadchurch, try hard to separate it from Gracepoint. Do that and you will find a different who dunnit series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
