What to Know

Critics Consensus

Marked by overwrought reality TV staging,Hell's Kitchen makes for unpleasant viewing with Chef Gordon Ramsey's hostile nature too often veering into grating self-parody.

Belinda Acosta Austin Chronicle Ugly to contestants, clients, and anyone else who gets in his way, [Gordon] Ramsay's performance is an overdone caricature. Sadistic foodies may take pleasure in this contest, but I prefer my hardasses on the tender side. Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Austin Smith New York Post It's in the manic kitchen scenes that [Gordon] Ramsay is at his best - or worst, depending on your point of view. Rated: 3/4 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety The real test here isn't enduring the heat; it's the stupidity. Mar 26, 2019 Full Review Rob Owen Toledo Blade I suppose sadomasochists or anyone else craving abuse will enjoy Hell's Kitchen, but I won't be tuning in again. Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Sierra Filucci Common Sense Media If you can handle Ramsay's rudeness and the annoying reality-show elements (constant replaying of key moments, odd editing, and overly dramatic music), the action is nail-bitingly delicious. Rated: 3/5 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel Opening night at Hell's Kitchen is a disaster. Many of those drawn to the place eventually walk out, vowing never to return. The same is likely to be the experience of this series. How fitting for a show that passes itself off as reality. Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Jacob C Fun, energetic. While Ramsey's frustration may be exaggerated at times, it makes for great TV. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review Simon H I love this show. If critics think Gordon is too mean, they can keep that to themselves. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/06/23 Full Review Regal R 90/100 - the fact that critics gave this show 36% and cry about ramsay being "hostile" is genuinely sad and pathetic. I feel bad for them because they'll never be able to appreciate or do anything of value in life. This show is great. Almost everything Ramsay does is great. It's always funny, even though its predictable it makes for easily digestible comfort food (pun intended). I like knowing Ramsays about to rip someone a new one when they talk back. I also like his softer side which you can see in jr chef. thats how you know his "character" or persona is just that, and he's not just a rude malicious person. he's clearly just passionate about his work and a great entertainer. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Season one was great! It starts the show off well and has a great cast of chefs. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Hell's Kitchen is a very interesting cooking show. And so far, Season 1 was pretty good.
