Jude Dry IndieWire There are as many fascinating New York stories as there are fascinating New Yorkers, and "High Maintenance" continues to mine the depths for the most luminous ones. Rated: A- Feb 25, 2020 Full Review Spencer Kornhaber The Atlantic It asks, again and again, what storytelling is for, and it's okay with an ambivalent answer. Feb 18, 2020 Full Review Vikram Murthi AV Club As much as High Maintenance changes or stays the same, that's one constant audiences can depend upon. Rated: B Feb 7, 2020 Full Review Kathryn Reklis The Christian Century High Maintenance is undeniably a New York show, and it elevates the messy chaos and density of urban life into an art form, celebrating the sheer existence of so many different forms of life living in close proximity. May 22, 2020 Full Review Ed Halter 4Columns Like a good indica, the show soothes. Following trends in online culture and a greater shift in comedy itself, it focuses on providing viewers with those little dopamine hits of recognition, seeing our own lives and experiences in comforting fictions. Apr 10, 2020 Full Review Beth Winchester The Young Folks The characters we meet are often enduring high-stress situations, if not worse, and the show is focused not on their potential misery but on how they are going to use the love around them to get through it. Corey W High Maintenance is an insightful, beautifully crafted piece of art featuring vignette-style episodes that are connected through a pot-dealing New Yorker referred to simply as "The Guy" (played perfectly by Ben Sinclair). Each episode is a glimpse into a different life in the city, each with its own dreams and issues. Occasionally the careful watcher will be treated to a small "crossover" wherein past episode's characters will appear as part of that week's vignette, but largely these episodes are like short stories. Some are bittersweet, sad, or triumphant, making sure to touch on all of the emotions in the spectrum between. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wonder just how prevalent marijuana use is; High Maintenance captures NYC life in a way that feels genuine and deeply personal. It's not to be missed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Gareth v Still one of the better shows on TV today. Pretty much the same structure as the the previous seasons and if anything the charming Sinclair as The Guy keeps getting better. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Even after 4 seasons, every episode is a masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A beautiful way of lazily exploring the joy of everyday humans being strange, intimate, vulnerable, and awesome through the lens of NYC. As a grown white cisgender male I don't think I have cried laughed and screamed as often; I'm thrilled to be alive and miss my fellow beings. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The serie changes completely. Now, each chapter is about the guy's personal life and increasingly unlikely things also begin to happen Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member If you're not watching High Maintenance, I question your taste in entertainment.
