When Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody returns home following eight years in captivity, CIA agent Carrie Mathison thinks he has turned and is connected to a terror plot to be carried out on American soil, so she engages him in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that puts America's national security at risk. Later on, Carrie gets a promotion and returns to the front lines overseas. She is assigned to one of the CIA's most volatile and dangerous stations in the Middle East, where she is in the heart of battle in the war on terror. Years later, after being disillusioned and placing herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, Carrie becomes estranged from the CIA, eventually returning stateside where she works for a foundation providing aid to Muslims living in America.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it lacks the series' patented agonizing suspense, Homeland's seventh season remains an engaging drama by embracing its pulpier elements and pitting Claire Danes' magnetic protagonist against the White House.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) After seven seasons, Showtime has refined the art of bringing us just the right sort of bonkers. Rated: 4/5 Feb 4, 2020 Full Review Euan Ferguson Guardian The plots might be borderline ludicrous, the spy shenanigans still laughably unlikely, but, post-Trump, who can be at all sure? Cast and production still take it seriously, believe in it, and this comes across with every minute's viewing. Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Victor Pineyro Seventh Art Studio For a show that has perfectly portrayed the world of espionage and terrorism, it's fulfilling to know that the creators know where the true threat of the United States comes from. jenaro v Es interesante como esta serie ya con 7 temporadas logra sorprender en cada una de ellas con las conspiraciones que se arman, lo normal es pensar que ya en este punto nada te sorprendería y tendrían que ser cosas muy rebuscadas pero no, nada de eso, te arman la historia para un lado y de repente todo se tuerce y te deja perplejo ante la pantalla. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review the s This is what I'm talking about. After a few mediocre seasons, season 7 became the one where all the best elements came together. Taking a cue from the domestic instability of the US under Trump's clumsy, corrupt and failing administration, the writers captured that unrest with this season, intertwining the best parts of the best that Homeland is capable of as a series. All of the ingredients are back: a relevant enemy, right wing domestic terrorism, Russians working with American politicians to cripple the US's international standing, intrigue, action, nail biting plot twists, etc. this was what brought it all into the home stretch for season 8 that left viewers wanting more when it all finally came to an end. I'm not sure why the ratings are relatively low for this season except maybe Alex Jones fans who were angry that he was depicted as the bumbling buffoon that he is. Or folks in the so-called flyover states who didn't like to see right wingers depicted as a bunch of Russian-loving, gun-toting hypocrites who don't understand complex issues like economics and science and as a group who are the first to fall for Simpleton tricks to manipulate them. Those things might account for about 10% of the less than stellar reviews but take it from me: if you were getting ready to give up on Homeland during seasons 5 & 6, this is the season to hold out for. Strap yourself in. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Paul H In my opinion this is one of the best Homeland seasons, up there with season 1. It's great from start to finish. Great acting , easy to follow, lots of action and definitely gripping. 👏🏻👍🏻 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/05/21 Full Review no m Boring and childish topics. Alex Jones wanna be, Russia, and just lazy writing overall. Up until this season show was solid.
