The reign of House Targaryen begins with this prequel to popular HBO series "Game of Thrones;" based on George R.R. Martin's "Fire & Blood," "House of the Dragon" is set nearly 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones," telling the story of the Targaryen civil war with King Viserys I Targaryen's children battling for control of the Iron Throne.

Kaiya Shunyata RogerEbert.com While season two of “House of the Dragon” starts strong, it eventually becomes clear that this series is at war with itself. Aug 28, 2024 Full Review Inkoo Kang The New Yorker The new allegiances in the finale satisfyingly blur the lines between the factions, but until war truly begins—and Rhaenyra embraces every aspect of leadership, including the unsavory ones—it’s still all table-setting, no meat. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Rachael Sigee BBC.com We know already that there is no happy ending, but it has increasingly seemed that the characters themselves agree. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Jeff Beck The Blu Spot Sadly this sophomore outing ends up being far more languid & uneventful, resulting in a rather curious season where very little happens to advance the plot, leaving the promises & potential of its previous season unfulfilled. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2024 Full Review Palmer Haasch Business Insider It's more evident now that season one, despite its grand scale (and sometimes indulgent dragon sequences), was the setup. Season two is the beginning of the payoff. Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu The satisfactory direction of two character arcs, the forging of new alliances, dragons and riders set against the mandatory striking production values, somewhat offset the disappointing absence of massive, jolly battles Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

J B Whoever was responsible for making sure that the scenes were in focus, someone please buy that person a 4K television so they can see what's going on! Such a shame after all the work that clearly went into costumes and sets. I was constantly squinting trying to figure out why weird things were out of focus. It almost hurt to watch. Things on wired and different focal planes were in and out of focus, and the bokeh had a nauseating unnaturalness to it. I suppose someone did this deliberately. It's horrible. Plus they decided to no longer include a digital version with the 4k BluRay like they did with season one. Please, shoot season 3 in focus then don't digitally blur things out on random focal planes in post. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Mark F It's the TV show I most look forward to at the moment. The ending of season one was outstanding and I couldn't wait to see what was coming next. I was a bit disappointed then that season 2 got off to a fairly slow start and it wasn't until the thrilling episode 4 that things really kicked off. Unfortunately the season then slowed the pace again getting bogged down spending too much time with Damon's storyline and his surreal daydreams and nightmares. I still enjoyed season 2 overall but would have liked it to have progressed the story more and instead was left with several tantalising plot threads hanging until season 3 comes around. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Jacob B This season was rife with disappointment. After such a strong return to Westeros that was season 1, hopes were set high. Unfortunately for everyone, Hotd followed the crash landing that was Got seasons 7 and 8. Slow pacing with no plot development. Coupled with lazy writing and Character assassinations left and right. Season 2 is an unmitigated disaster of television. Only episode of notable praise was episode 4. Even GRRM himself can’t stand what the writers have done with his source material with his recent blog post that he took down where he shits all over the shows questionable narrative direction. Hotd more like hot garbage. I’ll wait for knight of the seven kingdoms. Hopefully it’s worth while. May not even watch season 3 of Hotd will likely just wait for reviews before wasting my time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Audience Member I loved season 1. This season was good as well, however that buildup to such a lackluster season finale was a letdown. Still worth watching and hopefully season 3 will make up for it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review J R Season 2 of House of the Dragon delivered exactly what I wanted—an incredible dragon battle that was as intense and breathtaking as I’d hoped. The clash of these majestic beasts was a true spectacle, showcasing the devastating power of dragons and cementing their role as the ultimate weapons in Westeros. But what really impressed me was how much time the season dedicated to setting up intriguing storylines for future seasons. The political tensions are rising, alliances are being forged and broken, and every character seems to be playing a dangerous game that could explode at any moment. Each episode felt like a deliberate step toward something monumental, weaving a web of intrigue that promises epic payoffs down the line. I know some fans might feel like this season was a bit of a tease, but I truly believe the tease will be worth it. The foundation they’ve built here is rich with potential, and if they deliver on even half of what they’ve set up, the coming seasons could rival the best of Game of Thrones. Season 2 masterfully balances explosive moments with careful world-building, giving us a taste of the chaos to come while keeping us hooked on the characters and their complex motivations. If Season 1 pulled us back into Westeros, Season 2 has us strapped in for what looks to be one of the most thrilling rides yet. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Manuel Elkin M Poor development of the characters, lousy development of the war and terrible dialogues. besides many senseless Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
