Depraved underachieving might look easy, but for the egocentric Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Frank and Dee, it's an art form. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" follows "The Gang," the owners of the unsuccessful Paddy's Pub; a group of degenerates who loves nothing more than to scheme, conspire, and mostly revel in each other's misery. Whether gaming the welfare system, exploiting dumpster babies, pretending to be crippled, impersonating officers, or faking funerals, The Gang never stoops too low in the name of making a buck.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's coarse humor and shabby style may be rough around the edges, but this sinful sitcom wrings a surprising amount charm from its band of charmless underachievers.

John Doyle Globe and Mail It owes something to Seinfeld and to Friends, but only in the sense that it tries to stretch the formulae of those shows in order to create a sharper, more absurdist and politically incorrect comedy. Oct 15, 2020 Full Review Verne Gay Newsday You will laugh, you will cry (OK, you won't), and you will definitely be sated by FX's caustic brand of TV comedy. Oct 14, 2020 Full Review Kay McFadden Seattle Times The creators don't take advantage of these scenarios to cast any illumination into human nature. Unlike Seinfeld, the plotting often is sloppy and illogical. Oct 14, 2020 Full Review Joe Reid Decider They could take the darkest, trickiest, meanest storylines and make them work because they were funny enough. That's pretty impressive... The punchlines come from such odd directions, too. Oct 19, 2020 Full Review Chase Squires Tampa Bay Times The stock of sitcoms has been woefully thin this past year. If "Sunny" doesn't catch on, it will be a crime. Rated: A Oct 15, 2020 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Always Sunny" is less outrageous than "Starved" and more formulaic, but the premise is free-form enough that I can see it standing the test of time better than the comedy that precedes it. Sheila A Hilarious it’s good to laugh in these days and times. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Daniel H It never fails to make you laugh in every episode. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/24 Full Review Regal R 80/100 - Wow, right out of the gate they just throw you into the thick of it. I like how bold the writers are, and I think a lot of the humor is just them picking the most offensive topics and just running with them. I feel like this show can get old because its the same format every show, but thats also what makes it comfort food. The same characters you know and love, always acting the same, getting into the same shenanigans. I will miss shows like this and the fact that no writers are daring enough to make films like this anymore. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/02/24 Full Review Audience Member This may be the best sitcom currently being produced. While “peak Sunny” probably was seasons 5-9, they are still making terrific episodes 16 seasons in. Even a below average season of Sunny is better than the best season of most sitcoms. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Tristan C Watched every episode and I would watch them all again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Augustine J Great show, funny, dark and depraved. These seven episodes are comedy at it's absolutely pitch dark blackest. All of seven of these episodes are iconic. My personal favorite would have to be Gun Fever but all of these episodes are great. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
