Jean-Claude Van Damme is a name that is synonymous with action movies, but what if he was actually a secret agent and his entire film career was intended to be a front for his black ops missions? That's the premise of this series, a tongue-in-cheek look at his life in the spotlight. Working under the (not-so-secretive) alias Jean-Claude Van Johnson, the unhappily retired action star is lured back into the spy game by a chance encounter. When he gets involved as an undercover operative, Johnson is forced to confront the greatest enemy he's ever faced.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jean-Claude Van Damme parodies his own martial arts image with world-weary grace, but this series' scattershot laugh ratio and limited production value could leave viewer reaction as split as the star's thighs.

Melanie McFarland Salon.com It is a strange and wonderful show indeed that can satirize a genre and lampoon its star and his work without betraying the fans of either. Dec 21, 2017 Full Review Julia Raeside Guardian ... an over-caffeinated, directionless, amateurish botch that wastes all the talent involved. Dec 21, 2017 Full Review Ian Crouch The New Yorker You can admire the show's insistent devotion to its own concept while also thinking that Amazon has more money than it knows how to spend. Dec 19, 2017 Full Review Andrew Gaudion THN But for fans of Van Damme, and particularly JCVD, it does offers an experience that is capable of being very funny as well as suitably action-packed. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2020 Full Review John Tones Espinof Perhaps too focused on paying homage to its star, and perhaps somewhat uneven in its mix of drama and parody. But often it finds a strange balance in that twilight zone. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 2, 2019 Full Review Dominic Patten Deadline Hollywood Daily Funny, smart where you don't expect it, a bit shameless, framed literally and figuratively like a post-modern Buster Keaton, and of course full of deadpan quips, kicks, spins and that surely trademarked split by the Muscles from Brussels. Matt Hilarious, really not what you'd expect when you think JCVD. Probably the best show on Prime. If they made more shows like I wouldn't of canceled my membership. Really needs a 2nd season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review frank a You got to pay attention to all the funny dialog that is going on. If you do, this is just awesome. Van Damme with a lot of self irony, a lot older, but still kicks ass - with a heart. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This show couldn't have been better even if it had Rob Schneider! Who knew JCVD had much such comedic chops? This could be his best twin role yet. ;) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member JCVD came from Belgium to America, He played 1st degree roles to make his way into the "cultural" landscape of the US, but with age, he grew wise and delivers a 2nd degree humor show that displays his true DNA ! Goed gedaan ! Jean Claude ! Keep going this way ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is absolutely hilarious, JCVD is not afraid to let loose and make fun of himself, this is some of his best work late in his career. It is not just worth binging, it is worth binging and then binging it again immediately. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I watched the first three episodes and the series is so stupid and exaggerated that I have to say that it is really good.
