Commuting takes on a whole new meaning for San Francisco newspaper reporter Dan Vasser, who unexpectedly finds himself traveling through time to change people's lives. That's the good news. The bad news is he has to explain these sudden and unpredictable disappearances to his family (including his young son, who thinks his father's disappearances are related to magic) and colleagues -- and finding himself reunited on his journeys with a long-lost fiancee who was presumed dead cannot be good for his marriage. Or can it?

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though intriguing at times, the all-too-familiar premise and generic plot twists make Journeyman a trip not worth taking.

Alan Sepinwall Newark Star-Ledger Being derivative isn't a sin in and of itself -- imitation is the sincerest form of television, after all -- but "Journeyman" doesn't do anything especially interesting with its time-twisting premise. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Ellen Gray Philadelphia Inquirer An overly complicated pilot had me feeling that I, too, would like to time-travel, if not actually fast-forward, but a more straightforward second episode made me decide not to cancel my subscription just yet. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety As with many time-jumping stories, the series does make savvy use of period music, wardrobe and gadgets to define and differentiate the times, but such clever micro details will distract from concerns about the macro picture for only so long. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Vic Holtreman Screen Rant I'm very saddened that this show had to end, but I'm happy that the series ended in a quality way with it's head held high. Jan 11, 2019 Full Review Charlie Jane Anders io9.com Despite cancellation, Journeyman upped the ante this week with new characters, and more intriguing plot twists. Jan 11, 2019 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette It doesn't seem like "Journeyman" will clear up the murkiness surrounding the show's lead time traveler anytime soon. Audience Member BRILLIANT!!! you idiots, dont deserve a good show.. this IS A GEM!!! and SO SAD thers no more of it!!! demn!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this show- I was so mad when the writer's strike happened bc it took it off the air and cancelled it. I know it wasn't an original show premise, but I thought the execution of the storyline was flawless. Obsessed with the shots of SF - the cinematography and music were also on-point. I miss this show like crazy and wish it was picked up on a streaming platform! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great acting. Believable characters. Plenty of suspense for a tv series. Mostly family friendly. I can't understand why Rotten Tomatoes only gave it two stars. My family bought this through iTunes years ago. We are enjoying it again during the Covid-19 quarantine. Definitely recommend watching. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Ignore every single critic reviews and the "critic consensus". If you click through to their reviews, almost all 27 were actually published around September 24 2007 AND ARE REVIEWING THE FIRST EPISODE ONLY. If you watch the entire show you'll see that Journeyman (the 2007 TV series) is one of the most underrated TV shows ever made. It's a very subtly and intelligently written sci-fi that deals with the fallout when the main character begins travelling through time against his will. I don't want to give away anything, but I just want to say I love this show so much and wish it had a cult following. Just stop reading this and go watch. Go watch it now. I've rewatched the series a few times (something I rarely do). The family dynamic is constructed so perfectly with the interactions between the main character Dan and his brother Jack the most realistic I have ever seen. The writers and actors in this show should really be commended. The series was unfortunately cancelled after season 1 and was effected by the Hollywood Writers Strike (which is a huge pity). I hope that one day the original cast and writers can create a continuation. I like to imagine Dan Vasser is a homeless alcoholic having been stranded in the future since 2007 (mirroring the homeless guy we see in the first episode). Another great show from the same era is season 1 of the NBC's Heroes. The writers should have considered dovetailing Dan Vasser and family into season 2 of Heroes, because it would have worked really well. By the way, the reason there aren't that many audience reviews for this show is because RottenTomatoes *had not enabled audience reviews* until I recently emailed them to fix this. There's so few places on the internet where people geek out about the forgotten gem that is Journeyman! If you like this show please write your own review!
