Discovery Channel's first scripted drama, Klondike not only contains an admirable adventure plot, but a masterful exploration of landscapes and cinematography.

Neil Genzlinger New York Times That everyone is concerned with one particular killing when murder appears to be common doesn't make much sense, and the dialogue sometimes sounds too 21st century, but the exploration of what greed and deprivation do to people holds your attention. Jan 27, 2014 Full Review Tom Conroy Media Life The miniseries illuminates the many ways that writers' imagination can fail them. Jan 24, 2014 Full Review Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times There are many fine moments in Klondike, cinematic scenes of grandeur and dialogue that rise to poetry. But too often both then fall prey to self-conscious staginess, many repetitive scenes of dirt and endless conversations about the animal nature of man. Jan 24, 2014 Full Review Sabienna Bowman TV Equals Klondike was wrapped in a picturesque grandeur, but inside there wasn't a nugget of gold to be found, just a few sparkly platitudes and the message that hope is far too simplistic of a notion to hang an entire miniseries on. Jan 27, 2014 Full Review Matt Roush TV Guide Klondike delivers its dramatic bounty more effectively and compactly, capitalizing on some of Discovery's favorite obsessions: dangerous vocations, gold prospecting and harsh Alaska-adjacent terrain, in a fictionalized account of the 1897 gold rush. Jan 24, 2014 Full Review Curt Wagner RedEye It takes some time to get used to writer Paul Scheuring's period-specific dialogue, but once you stop chuckling and just go with it, you'll be fine. It only adds to the authenticity of the production. Rated: 3/4 Jan 22, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Reality is often so disappointing... There were a few moments of hope in between a train of disasters. Decent acting from a few of the supporting, including the lead once in awhile. Visually they did a decent job at capturing the stunning wilderness. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Ruoxi Z Not my favorite subject, but well-made and well-acted, it's worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/06/22 Full Review Audience Member i love this show! we want more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I have been to the Klondike and Dawson City - this mini series certainly SHOULD NOT use the term "based on actual events". The only real event in this show is that there was a Klondike Gold Rush. Dawson City was a crazy place, but the Canadian NWMP had it well under control . There were not random murders, or gun play, an there certainly was not an attack by local first nations that killed Mounties. It is sad that Discovery Channel has turned to pretty much brain numbing garbage TV. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely awful script. Good cast, photography and great scenery but they should have invested as much effort and talent in the improbable and dopy plot. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Really well done series. Recommend checking out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a review
