In a rare switch for programming usually adapted from one side of the Atlantic to the other, the U.K. is the recipient this time around. Dick Wolf's long-running U.S. police procedural drama gets a British tweak, as the action shifts from New York to London. Despite the change of scenery, the show's fundamental setup remains comfortably the same: the police investigate a crime in the first half, and the prosecutors go after the offenders in the second half. The only major differences are the accents and white wigs.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A British twist on the venerable police procedural, Law & Order: UK loses nothing in translation -- it's well-written, crisply acted, and consistently satisfying.

Dorothy Rabinowitz Wall Street Journal The tone works, the scripts exude vitality. Nov 26, 2010 Full Review Troy Patterson Slate The writing is as crisp as Brooks' perfect raincoat, and the partners share a father-son chemistry unseen elsewhere in the franchise. Oct 3, 2010 Full Review Randee Dawn The Hollywood Reporter It's a bloody good translation. Oct 3, 2010 Full Review Jessica Johnson Time Out Chicago Law & Order: UK continues to be one of the more satisfying spin-offs the franchise has spawned. Jul 2, 2018 Full Review Tom Conroy Media Life The show retains its source's appeal and should attract longtime fans who might enjoy a rerun with new flavor, as well as nonfans who prefer their mysteries with British accents and vocabulary. Oct 8, 2010 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Aside from a few head-scratcher terms, lawyers and judges wearing white wigs while in court and occasionally impenetrable accents, Law & Order: UK should be remarkably familiar to fans of the original series.
