David Haller is a troubled young man who was diagnosed with schizophrenia as a child. Shuffled from one psychiatric institution to the next, in his early 30s, David meets and falls in love with a beautiful and troubled fellow patient named Syd. After a startling encounter with her, he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. With the help of Syd and a team of specialists who also possess unique and extraordinary gifts -- Ptonomy Wallace, Kerry Loudermilk and Cary Loudermilk -- David unlocks a deeply suppressed truth: he has been haunted his entire life by a malicious parasite of unimaginable power.

Critics Consensus

Bold, intelligent, and visually arresting, Legion is a masterfully surreal and brilliantly daring departure from traditional superhero conceits.

Tasha Robinson Polygon It's weird and often unsettling and nightmarish, but it's also pretty mesmerizing. Mar 22, 2021 Full Review Gail Pennington St. Louis Post-Dispatch Even if you barely understand a thing that's going on (and be patient; chances are you will), "Legion" is a joy to watch, surreal and beautiful, with as many funny asides as frightening moments. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 14, 2018 Full Review Aaron Riccio Slant Magazine Legion's visual density on a shot-by-shot basis and the scope of its world-building is already impressive enough, especially in just over three minutes, but it's a sign of the show's creative aspirations that Hawley isn't content to stop there. Jul 14, 2018 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews engaging and meaningful Nov 4, 2023 Full Review Shannon O'Connor The Daily Beast Legion allowed Plaza to show off everything from her hypnotic dance moves to the full scope of her range... Feb 28, 2023 Full Review Kelechi Ehenulo Confessions From A Geek Mind The best thing about Legion - this is unlike anything you've seen on TV and in the case of Hawley's artistic direction, Legion rewrites the rules on how a TV show can be explored. yuphile This season of Legion is great in artistry. Sometimes, it is intentionally confusing us to an extend where you don't know which is really happening. And at some point you can't figure out why, where and how this begins to happen. But overall its just a fresh experience, and a blast to watch with great performances. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review WarDriver84 I love legion despite not being interested in the whole marvel thing, the way they portrait everything is next to nothing, the music, the abstract imaging and the range of actors used is absolutely stunning. We need more of this, this is not tv this is art!!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Byrand M The series is characterized by a sluggish pace, marked by repetitiveness and a strained attempt at artistic depth, often resulting in confusion without purpose. Despite sporadically intriguing visuals, they fail to redeem the overall quality of the show. Character development is lacking, rendering the cast unmemorable and the underlying love story unconvincing. The supposed "omega level" power of the main character, David (Legion), falls short in delivering a genuine sense of awe, contributing to an underwhelming viewing experience. The excessive use of tedious and repetitive scenes, at times recycled from previous episodes, adds little value and becomes a tiresome narrative device. Some episodes veer into the realm of pointlessness, resembling detached Twilight Zone shorts with minimal impact on the overarching story. The promised epic mutant superpower battles are disappointingly brief and anticlimactic. Even in the final battle between David and Farouk, the utilization of powers is overshadowed by unconventional and lackluster elements, diminishing the impact of the confrontation. In contrast to other superhero series, such as DC's Titans, Legion fails to develop compelling characters and a gripping storyline. Titans, with its more complex and relatable characters, outshines Legion in delivering a satisfying viewing experience. Legion's persistent exploration of the blurred line between reality and illusion becomes a tiresome theme, detracting from the overall narrative coherence. Ultimately, Legion falls short in its attempts at both mind-bending fantasy and engaging fight scenes, leaving viewers with a sense of unfulfilled potential and frustration. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review Peter B Tideous, slow-paced, confused nonesense with unbelievable characters and silly sets. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Bryna L I agree with what a good amount of other critical reviewers have said. It seems like a film school project...in a bad way, pretentious and overacted. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/04/23 Full Review Kelly K It's a trip! If you don't want a trip, don't watch it. 'Cause, it's a trip! 5 stars! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
