Comic George Lopez stars as a fictionalized version of himself in this semi-autobiographical sitcom. Lopez portrays America's most successful Hispanic-American comedian who struggles between his two worlds -- he feels he's too rich to go back to his Latino, working-class roots, but feels too ethnic to fit into the world of affluent celebrities. He faces a number of problems and crises -- many of which are a result of his own doing. It's all tied in to Lopez's real-life insecurities and inability to connect, which the comedian says "are all part of my charm." Read More Read Less

Critics Consensus

Lopez's namesake star wrings enough cheeky, autobiographical humor to transcend the show's old-school premise.

Eric Deggans NPR George Lopez is a talent that TV just doesn't know what to do with. Nov 26, 2019 Full Review Sonia Saraiya Salon.com I find Lopez the most enjoyable form of George Lopez, and partly that's because it's so seemingly authentic. Apr 1, 2016 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times George may take a lot of grief, but Lopez, who benefits from the relaxed naturalism of this setting, and whose best moments are his quietest, is well-supported on all sides. Mar 31, 2016 Full Review Tim Surette TV.com Say goodbye to your mind because I'm about to blow it away: George Lopez is in a good show. Mar 31, 2016 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media The amusing series is a classic sitcom featuring the irreverent ethnic-based humor George Lopez is known for. Rated: 3/5 Mar 30, 2016 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette It's not that "Lopez" is terrible, just terribly unoriginal as it depicts its lead character as slightly out-of-touch, overly concerned with his image, etc. Mar 29, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews
