Oct 17, 2010 Full Review Ginia Bellafante New York Times The two circle each other dangerously, their chemistry both bizarre and addicting. Oct 17, 2010 Full Review Maureen Ryan HuffPost An excellent showcase for Idris Elba and an increasingly impressive character drama that goes to some dark and absorbing places. Oct 17, 2010 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Snag is, the plot is ridiculous, and a batch of rather fine actors have been persuaded to throw subtlety and logic to the winds and to portray characters which veer wildly between cliché and implausibility... Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Anna Peele Esquire Magazine Luther often teeters on the edge of plausibility... But Elba's deeply grounded performance keeps the show from feeling over-the-top. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Euan Ferguson Observer (UK) This was woeful ham, utterly redeemed by Idris, and I await Luther II with genuine anticipation and my cliché-pants ready. Chet T Ok, this is a unique twist on British crime dramas. Of course, Elba is solid as the lead. However, for me it is great bc it doesn't follow the normal script of "who done it." You basically meet the villain at the beginning of each episode. The villain is new each episode (usually involving a very solid actor from the British scene) ... BUT it is then layered with a protagonist that weaves throughout the series.. one that Luther can't beat. Add, a third layer concerning Luther's personal life and the recipe works well. The only drawback is that some of the delivery seems a bit lazy in some scenes. It's not on par with "Line of Duty" but not far behind! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Stephen H Bro this is one of the greatest tv shows I’ve ever seen in my life. Could not stop watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Kirill M Сперва думаешь, что главный герой окажется типичным гением, но давольно быстро осознаешь, что он идиот. Но если отбросить мысли о серьезности и мрачной атмосфере, которые нам пытаются навязать — сериал смотрится бодро и даже захватывает. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review matthias s **Luther Season 1 Review (77%)** "Luther" Season 1 is a dark, intense crime drama led by Idris Elba’s powerful performance. The suspense is gripping, and the character dynamics keep you hooked, though some plotlines feel familiar. Still, it’s a solid, thrilling start to the series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review David W These reviews cannot be real. This is a terrible show from the beginning. To borrow a word from many other reviewers, ‘inplausible’. I mean, come’on. In the first 20 minutes of the show, you have the ‘nemesis’ introduced and already shown to be the killer because she didn’t yawn when he yawned, and she doesn’t do anything to hide it. ‘Haha, you have figured me out, but you can never prove it Luther’. And why was he suddenly meeting the nemesis in front of her apartment? And where did he get her apartment key? And, if he’s such a brilliant detective, why is he sneaking into her apartment anyways? For me, the actors are so utterly wasted on this flick, which is full of cliched tropes. It reminds me of the dusty Agatha Christy flicks my Mum watches, but on steroids. Lots of telling and no showing. I’m particularly disappointed because this show was recommended to viewers who liked The Fall, which is a brilliantly written and performed series, full of slowly building suspense. This show, garbage and wasted talent. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Mike C I may be bit biased as I am drawn to crime oriented dramas, but this series is fantastic. Edge of your seat type episodes but laden with character build and emotional touches. John Luther comes across as a bit superhuman at times, but that is easily forgotten because the story line flows well. It's a shame that this great series was capped off by a subpar endgame movie (Fallen Sun) on Netflix. Very worth watching show....enjoy. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
