What to Know

Critics Consensus

Luther delves into darker territory in its second season, and Idris Elba's outstanding performance make this a police procedural of uncommon weight and heft.

But it should be fun watching him go about his implausible work. Stephen H He’s like Batman and Sherlock Holmes put together. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review matthias s *Luther* Season 2 delivers a thrilling continuation of the intense, dark crime drama. With Idris Elba's gripping portrayal of the tortured detective, the series introduces even more terrifying and twisted serial killers that keep the tension high in every episode. The plot twists are sharp, and the psychological stakes are heightened, making each case feel personal and urgent. While not every storyline is perfectly wrapped, the gritty atmosphere and unforgettable villains more than make up for it. A solid 78% – it’s edge-of-your-seat entertainment with brilliant performances. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/26/24 Full Review David C Dark, imaginative, and psychologically thrilling at times, the writing and acting are brilliant. The main characters are establishing firm relationships, and back stories continue evolving. RW is so good in her role!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/23 Full Review S M Raisul I As if Luthor couldn't get more entitled, now he's got an annoying side lackey. This show is incredible to exist and last. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I think it's an improvement over the already excellent first season. Though there's a bit of a dissapointment with less Alice, the excellent Jenny storyline really makes up for it. Idris Elba is still absolutely fantastic as the titular Luther. Especially the case that makes up the later half of this season is tense, disturbing and interesting. Overall this season is even more dark and disturbing than the first one, which depending on what kind of person you are, might either be an advantadge or a disatvantage. For me the season benefited greatly from it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review r 9 Season two of 'Luther' is just as great as season one, despite being two episodes shorter. Idris Elba remains outstanding in the lead role. Ruth Wilson (Alice) doesn't feature as highly, while Warren Brown (Ripley) is likeable once more. Saskia Reeves (Teller) isn't involved, which I'm happy about; nothing personal whatsoever, I just didn't enjoy her character in S1. Dermot Crowley (Schenk) has a bigger part, which I'm a fan of. As for newcomers, it's a tad iffy. I like the acting of Nikki Amuka-Bird (Gray), but her role isn't written all that well in my opinion - despite Gray's objectives, she comes across annoying which I assume isn't intentional? If it is, that's weird. Elsewhere, Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Jenny) is solid but David Dawson (Toby) & Co. aren't interesting, but at least the storyline that they are involved with is. Overall, I again thoroughly enjoyed this show. Some very good plots in there. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
