Noel Murray AV Club M*A*S*H had an agenda aside from historical accuracy. It was about skewering authoritarianism, advocating simple human decency, and exploring the changing roles of women and men, all as seen from the perspective of its own time, not the '50s. Mr. Goodbytes J Bam! The fourth season of the ever-rewatchable M*A*S*H television series starts its series by replacing two characters thought to be irreplaceable. Not only do Mike Farrell and Harry Morgan fill the shoes of Wayne Rogers and McLean Stevenson more than adequately, but the two new fellows increase the seriousness of the series more than ever, and by the time the last episode of the season is viewed, the audience will be on its feet, stamping and cheering for more of the serious, but still deadly funny television farce.
