Season 1 – Married ... With Children

1987 Comedy List

The antithesis of the loving "Cosby Show" family, "Married ... With Children" focused on the Bundys, a suburban Chicago family who would rather eat nails than say a kind word to one another. Al, the patriarch, is a misogynistic shoe salesman, whose wife, Peggy, is a housewife who does no work around the house. Saying their children, Kelly and Bud, do not have a lot going for them is an understatement. This biting comedy focuses on the couple's constant verbal sparring over their slacker kids, their lack of money, success and intimacy. Read More Read Less

Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times The scripts are one-line oriented and sometimes an ugly howl, and the central characters are perfectly cast. Nov 7, 2018 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media But even though the show comes across as being anti-"family values" on the surface, it actually supports the idea of a family that, while seriously flawed, cares deeply about each other. spyros s superb! watching it again for a trillionth time! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Commander K The world needs more comedy like this. Brilliant show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review arianit k gold. no filters, pure comedy Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review jens-erik b Still very funny. Great show. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review jonathan m Orignal called not the Cosbys, Writen for Roseanne, who's agent said no way she will be a movie star eg She Devil which flopped but keep in mind she Devil by Fay weldon was just made into a dark gothic style minni series that got lots of notoriety and nominations so remaking somthing so soon after it was just done was odd... Anyhow the working title for this show was called not the Cosbys, but you could also say it's definitely not the Partridge Family it's definitely not The Brady Bunch in fact they were so unique and vile that it was a breath of fresh air, but guess what was more shocking people could relate, "that's just like us"  I mean there's nothing wrong with The Cosby Show but if you're going to do something do something different that's what Ron Levitt said the creator, so it wasn't till season 3 till the show got cooking as people couldn't watch it as it was difficult to get fox on your rabbit ears for a long time, rabbit ears aka ariel, so that was quite handy pretty much season 1 2 3 where re broadcast as new content which ment the show had time to produce lots of new episodes. And that is why the show ran for a very long time. Some episodes are bad and stupid but come on its the Bundys. Diana Bellamy played a charter who worked in a store beside ALs shoe shop she was a terrific character actress and constantly made fun of Al it was just good chemistry but for some reason I don't know why they didn't keep her he came back a few times but each time she played a different character would have just been great for our to have that rivalry at work she would constantly come in and annoy him but I suppose they had Marcy for that. But just a shout out to the late larger than life Diana Bellamy who should of been a recurring character Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the funniest shows of all time.
