Hannah Giorgis The Atlantic A worthwhile addition, largely because it resists two of the most common impulses of true-crime narratives: relishing the gory specifics of a real human being’s violent death, and spending much of its run time on the psychology of a murderer. Dec 15, 2023 Full Review Jack Hamilton Slate Hehir proves more than up to the task: Murder in Boston is the best of his documentaries I’ve seen to date, even if it’ll probably collect only a fraction of the views of his star-studded sports films. Dec 4, 2023 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal Murder in Boston in its three parts (“Roots” then “Rampage” then “Reckoning”) is a captivating crime story, a socio-political treatise and even evidence that life can get better. Dec 1, 2023 Full Review Raven Brunner Decider Murder in Boston: Roots, Rampage, and Reckoning is more than just a true crime docuseries, it is a bold exploration of racial tensions and discrimination in a city that has long been touted as progressive. Dec 9, 2023 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba It’s a fascinating true-crime case by itself. Still, director Jason Hehir smartly sets it against the backdrop of the racial tensions in Boston and how the killing affected more than just the family of Carol Stuart.
