What to Know

Critics Consensus

Treating the franchise's past with an overweening reverence while padding out its new cast with cloying sidekicks, this National Treasure spinoff tumbles over the edge of satisfaction.

Nick Schager The Daily Beast Takes its predecessors’ historical treasure-hunting adventure and gives it an insufferable tween spin. Jan 30, 2023 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com The opening episodes have their moments, but it’s less something to treasure than at best mildly enjoy. Dec 15, 2022 Full Review Kayleigh Donaldson TheWrap Half the fun of this genre is in the sheer satisfaction to be gleaned by watching someone figure out seemingly impossible things and making it seem as easy as pie. That’s something that “Edge of History” offers by the bucketful. Dec 14, 2022 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies National Treasure: Edge of History concluded its first season with the thrills, mystery, and excitement that one expects from the franchise. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 8, 2023 Full Review Collin Garbarino WORLD The action advances through coincidences that are too coincidental—and the puzzles, which form the core of the film franchise, seem to be afterthoughts. Some of the characters’ actions feel contrived or simply don’t make sense. Rated: 1/4 Jan 2, 2023 Full Review Tori Preston Pajiba What Edge of History does well is to update the groundwork of the franchise for a new generation, and expand the boundaries of its treasure hunting by acknowledging that there is more to America than just the United States. Jeffrey M The critics were too hard on this one. It's clever, and fast-paced, and fun, and not meant to be taken too seriously. The writing is good, the main characters have some depth, the dialogue is well crafted and funny, and there are plenty of twists and turns. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece, but it deserves way more than 36% on rotten tomatoes! That's just wrong. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Sophia G I like the series. But there are two Charakters that are just so stupid and nerve wrecking. I hate Liam and Jess dad. They are such idiots and terrible actors. I love the actors of all of Jess friends and the actor of Billy. They are very good and did a really good job. Overall I like the series and would like to see season 2 but without that love stuff. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review T W Besides the theme song, this series is a vehicle for politics, love triangles and a basic preschool clue solving treasure plot. Lisette Olivera is obviously casted for eye-candy. At least National Treasure 3 is still in production to redeem the franchise. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Robert M The reason why I like to show is because of the friends that find the treasure and the love that they have for each other when defeated their enemy, and when they worked as a team. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Paul S Hammy acting, poorly scripted with zero logic about story lines. The pouting when Jess is about to do something or is trying to hide something is cringey at best. Don’t watch if you’re a fan of the films as it makes Nicholas Cage’s acting seem like Oscar winning material. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Louis N Clever and original, hope there's a second series! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Read all reviews
