This often campy series centers on the office of Dr. Sean McNamara and Dr. Christian Troy, longtime friends who practice surgery (and live life) in two entirely different ways. Christian is the stereotypical self-destructive playboy. Sean is the family man facing a moral crossroads, as well as a failed marriage to Julia. Sounds grim, but a healthy dose of dark humor keeps things humming and contributes to the show's appeal with both viewers and critics. But be warned -- the depictions of surgery on this series are a tad graphic.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Nip/Tuck's sophomore season peels back some its predecessors' excesses to reveal a beating heart at the center of its soapy theatrics, elevated by a sterling cast and some genuinely subversive twists.

Joe Reid The Atlantic Famke Janssen as femme fatale Ava Moore gave a brilliant performance that stretched all bounds of responsibility and good taste, but which was utterly compelling. Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Steve Johnson Chicago Tribune Amid this determined luridness, the show tries to stick in some "real" drama, and the effect is knock-you-off-your-seat disconcerting. Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Linda Stasi New York Post I just thought Nip/Tuck was so over-the-top that it was crazy. It is crazy, but it's also funny and can even be deep about the shallow world of cosmetic surgery. Rated: 3/4 Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Robert P. Laurence San Diego Union-Tribune One of TV's most adult, provocative, outrageous and thought-provoking dramas -- and the bloodiest and most sex-drenched -- Nip/Tuck doesn't just push the envelope, it heaves it clear over the cliff. Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Peter Schorn IGN Movies Christian is more complex than the facade of vain, prideful, egomaniacal womanizer initially reveals and McMahon conveys these depths ably. Walsh has a messier row to hoe, but he does repression well. Rated: 8/10 Nov 13, 2018 Full Review People Staff People Magazine The second season of Nip/Tuck seems giddily determined to top the first. Audience Member The second season stuck with the formula, and possibly made it even better. Probably the last season that was really any good, right before the show became monotonous. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
