Emergency room nurse Jackie Peyton does everything she can to provide her patients with the best care possible while navigating the waters of a crumbling health-care system. But she has a secret that is increasingly difficult to keep from people -- she relies on Vicodin and Adderall to get her through high-stress shifts at a New York hospital, where she isn't above bending the rules to keep things running smoothly in the face of indifferent doctors, penny-pinching bean counters and miles of bureaucratic red tape.

Michelle Newman Entertainment Weekly Heartbreaking. Because despite its complications, addiction is sad. And I think that's the only certain thing left to feel. Dec 27, 2018 Full Review Margaret Lyons New York Magazine/Vulture [The] refusal to soften Jackie, that resistance to bend towards likability, is the show's most impressive feat. Dec 27, 2018 Full Review Verne Gay Newsday Great nurse. Flawed human being, and an irreparable one. That's also what made her real, and relatable, and what Falco brought so fully to the role -- that gnawing sense of self-doubt, and self-reproof, which spilled over into acts of self-destruction. Dec 27, 2018 Full Review Jared Canfield Screen Rant Edie Falco's deliciously duplicitous performance fueled the show right through to its unforgettable conclusion. Dec 27, 2018 Full Review Mark A. Perigard Boston Herald Nurse Jackie has always been about telling its story its own way - and demonstrating that drug addiction is a vile disease that can afflict the best and brightest among us. Dec 27, 2018 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media Thanks to strong writing and a fully realized supporting cast, viewers learn more and more about Jackie and her demons as the series unfolds. BONITA L This finale is boldly honest and tragically jarring. It holds up the integrity that built the series and the reality that makes the series uniquely terrifying. Exquisitely written, acted and directed, it resists the temptation to soften the landing. The commitment to the portrayal of addiction's insidious layers and confounding paradoxes makes this series deserving of recognition along with other classics such as Wine and Roses. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Audience Member It's been five years since Nurse Jackie's finale on Showtime. I don't often watch television programs more than once, but trapped at home during this pandemic in a time when this nation has so profoundly lost its innocence, being in the company of this enormously likeable cast is a great comfort. Watching a second time – this time streaming two or three episodes a night on Netflix – I'm impressed how the writers managed to keep so much of this tragic-comedy lighthearted. Meanwhile, at its the center, Edie Falco gives a brave performance that can have you loving or hating her in a space of moments. So many shows break your heart because they are dishonest. Nurse Jackie breaks your heart because it ends as it has to: breaking the hearts of everyone who loves her. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review andy h Nurse Jackie closes its doors with the feeling of hope, empathy, and foresight for a better tomorrow despite all that has happened. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This was actually a pretty good show dealing with drug addictions and the devastation it can bring. Too bad in it's 7th season the writers/producers decided to turn it into a mushy politically correct and naive rambling so far removed from reality that the solid already existing plot and premise have little chances of surviving leaving you wandering if the writers of the late episodes of MASH and Weeds who successfully brought both shows to collapse took this one over. The villains are Norwegian investors wanting to buy the hospital (by the sellers of the hospitals are OK!) and greedy hospital administrators wanting the patients to pay for care (imagine that). My advice: watch seasons 1 through 6 and skip the 7th. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I am only watching this season because I watched the others, it's one of those shows that isn't great, but you keep watching cause there's nothing else on. This season is freaking annoying. First off, why the hell would Jackie's supervisor not go against the lawyers when it is clear Jackie screwed up? Second, most addicts, who still aren't recovered, are too ashamed to look people in the eye, let alone hire a lawyer to fight their supervisor when they've been fired. Its just unrealistic. Jackies character is very annoying. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The perfect ending to a perfect series. Beautifully done.
