What to Know

Critics Consensus

One Tree Hill's soporific sloppiness would be endearing if it weren't so self-serious, stranding a charismatic cast with stilted writing and a cloying tone.

Steve Johnson Chicago Tribune The title of this attempt at teen high drama is one of only several unintentionally comical elements in a series that gets some of the big notes right, but squawks out all of the little ones. Jan 31, 2020 Full Review Austin Smith New York Post In some way or another, this show is trying to be Everwood, Dawson's Creek, Eight Mile and Hoosiers all rolled into one. It would be a whole lot more accessible if it would just try to be One Tree Hill, whatever that is. Rated: 1/4 Nov 26, 2018 Full Review Samantha Bonar Los Angeles Times The Biblical story is a good, classic plot that lends itself well to a modern retelling, as John Steinbeck did so well in East of Eden. If the pilot is any indication, it should work just as well for the teen set in One Tree Hill. Nov 26, 2018 Full Review David Zurawik Baltimore Sun One Tree Hill is more teen angst from WB. Impressive photography and a good-looking cast add up to a drama that is at least pretty to look at. Jan 31, 2020 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel It's not a great show but it's a quintessential WB series. Jan 30, 2020 Full Review People Staff People Magazine The writing -- like the basketball scenes -- is junior-varsity stuff. Nov 26, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Meghan M I literally grew up age for age with this show. Have watched it idk how many times over. I'll always love it and they ended it perfectly Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Best teen drama ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member great seasons with great characters and really execellent storylines that tackles issues that is going on with teens today Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review steve d With it's focus on character, its fantastic cast redemptive message and characters you grow to love, One Tree Hill may be the greatest teen drama of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I used to love watching this show growing up when it came out. But as I'm re-watching it during this quarantine I find it painfully flawed. First is the lack of representation within the first season. Aside from Skills and The Principle no one on the show remotely looks like me. And if they do well they result to playing roles like, cough cough, Skillz and The Principle. In the first season I could never get around Lucas Scott. The whole good boy turns rebellious player, adopting a vengeful/dickhead spirit, to then back to good boy was something I could never overlook and forgive. Like boy get a grip. Though Chad Michael Murray is a good actor with more range than his onscreen brother. James Lafferty's paper thin portrayal of Nathan Scott actually won me over Lucas from the very beginning. On the contrary of season one being centered around two brothers and their love of basketball, the women are truly the heart of the show. Any scene with Sophia Bush, Moira Kelly, Bethany Joy Lenz, and newcomer Hilarie Burton at the time is truly a highlight to savor!!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Good coming of age tv series. Pretty unrealistic towards the end but it's dynamic and has good, relatable, storylines Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
