Piper Chapman is a public relations executive with a career and a fiance when her past suddenly catches up to her. In her mid-30s she is sentenced to spend time in a minimum-security women's prison in Connecticut for her association with a drug runner 10 years earlier. This Netflix original series is based on the book of the same title. Shadow and Act Staff Shadow and Act ...it was especially veteran actress Toussaint battling equal vet Mulgrew that made some of the most intense scenes in Season 2... Sep 15, 2022 Full Review Hillary Busis Entertainment Weekly My reaction to season 2's conclusion, by contrast, is more of a contented sigh. May 24, 2019 Full Review Jason Hughes TheWrap At it's best when it explores the lives of the most diverse and interesting ensemble on television. May 24, 2019 Full Review Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind Orange is the New Black is forever a show about family: and nothing captures the sentiments of that better than these two episodes, a wonderful, emotional conclusion to a stunning season of television. Feb 26, 2020 Full Review Jack Hoare Cultured Vultures A show that not only exceeds expectations, but delivers clever, gripping storylines in a claustrophobic setting. Oct 3, 2019 Full Review Britt Hayes ScreenCrush There's no real justice at Litchfield. We know that. But the finale spends so much time giving us false hope, only to wipe it off the table and bring Vee's story to an abrupt and silly conclusion. May 24, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great show they made it awesome!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Orange Is The New Black routinely pays homage to its form, by referencing books throughout the entire Netflix original series. After the first season, the show heavily diverges from the truth of the memoir it was based on, though the show still makes an effort to honor books by including them in the characters lives. Not only do inmates rely on story to get through their incarceration, but their incarceration becomes a story (ie. Orange Is The New Black: A Memoir by Piper Kerman). OITNB may weave a tall tale, but a tale that is rooted in truth. Although the lives of Chapman and the other inmates depicted on the show are fictitious, they are based on real people in true situations. The show brings to light real issues that exist within the prison system, and educates us while entertaining us. Image result for oitnb standing on tables the animals The show dramatizes and exaggerates the realities of prison riots, and idealizes an outcome that could benefit the entire prison system. By grouping all of the worst-case scenarios in a Murphys-Law sort of way, the show educates people about prison life, laws, and serves as a sort of guide on How-To avoid prison.
