Liz Shannon Miller IndieWire [It] may not want to be a space spoof, but if it's able to fully evolve into a character-driven dramedy that just happens to be set in space, then that's adding something unique to the genre. And that could make "The Orville" a show worth watching. Rated: B Jan 2, 2019 Full Review Nick Wanserski AV Club Starting the season by focusing entirely on the characters and their relatively modest problems was a great pay off for all the effort season one put into developing the crew of the Orville into a group of people we care about. Rated: B+ Jan 2, 2019 Full Review CJ Sheu Review Film Review To my surprise, as the jokes decreased, my appreciation for them increased, even when the general quality remained about the same. I’m partial to episodic television[.] Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Kylie Klein-Nixon The Post NZ Irreverent, slightly obnoxious, but time-drainingly watchable. Apr 13, 2020 Full Review Ed Fortune Starburst Season 2 is occasionally a bumpy ride for its changes in story and pacing, but it's well worth the journey. Rated: 8/10 May 6, 2019 Full Review Will Harris The Verge When The Orville dials down the goofy comedy, it can hold its own with any of the more traditional science fiction properties out there. Ananya G Season 2 really kicks it up in high gear for The Orville! More charged and more depth to the plots, character, and stories. Being a solid Trekkie I am shocked at myself that I did not know about The Orville until so late! However, I am glad I also found out about it when I could binge 3 seasons of it 😊 The Orville is the truest Sci-Fi to the original Star Trek shows considering where they have taken the series now - more of an action oriented saga than philosophy and growth. The Orville is certainly not a comedy but Star Trek with a bit of humor. Seth MacFarlane has truly built such strong characters and stories in nearly every episode without relying on a story arc to keep you glued. The strength of the characters is sufficient to feel like a part of the series and vested from episode to episode - exactly what kept me glued to The Original Series. Seth, Gene Roddenberry would have been proud of what you have created! The Orville can expand into its own full-blown universe in competition to Paramount's BS but only if you want to take it there. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Brad S. R Excellent science fiction and a fantastic improvement over the show's rocky first season. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review Stevan L Putting the focus on the characters and using the world this series is set in to its full extent pays off massively. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Ben J This TV show is pretty much a love letter to Star Trek: The Next Generation from the '80s and '90s, bringing back the same winning format that we all grew up with and loved. In fact, I'd say it's the true Star Trek successor of the modern day, because the modern Star Trek shows just haven't captured the same feel and magic, which The Orville, in its own vehicle, has beautifully achieved. The humor strikes a perfect balance not making it overly comedic, but allowing for a bit of tension in the stories too. Absolutely love the series and can't wait for more! Definitely a must see especially for any old school Star Trek fan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review Audience Member There is nothing to watch today, I am watching this series for the 3rd time. I'm a big Star Trek fan, but I really relax with this series. I really enjoy the humour - 100% Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Orsolya H I got more and more hooked with each episode. The best damn series I've seen in a long, long time. I loved each and every character and second of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
